Well... if you lost, then I don't have ANY chance. So you beating a SS gives me some hope. I'm going to give a shot anyway. The DC Maxima Club is getting together at Capital Raceway this Friday. Looks like a lot of new guys are going to show up. I hope some old school shows up too.

Impala SS huh...I ran one from a light one morning, got a good launch and ran doorhandle to doorhandle off the line then walked away from him by the top of first, grabbed second with a vengance and pulled on him even more, went to third and let off as we were coming up on traffic. I was amazed that I beat him after the way people talk about them, LT1 this, 350 that...whatever. I do think it would give an auto a tough time.

I probably won't be able to make it Fri, my inlaws are coming into town and they always keep me busy, you know how it is. What's planned for Fri. anyway?

Heck yeah, I'd give it a shot if I were you, let me know how it turns out. I went to the DC website and saw the info about the meet, I'm so out of touch I didn't know unitl you mentioned it! As it turns out I won't be able to make it so take lots of pics and give everyone my regards. I'll be sure to make the next one.

i dynoed at 180 to my wheels when i had the y-pipe intake UDP and high flow cat........i know have custom b-pipe and HKS rear section and wish for more ........ i am also planning on gettin a computer ugrade and the torque converter from level 10 so the number will be rather impressive i will let you know when i get the money to get the TC but the chip upgrade is a go and is said to give 15 to the wheels but i doubt it so we will see when i dyno it i am dyno'in it before the chip with my exhaust and after the chip so we will see what it really does for me....... i will let you know when i do....... hope i get a good number!!!!!!!

What chip upgrade? I know of only one - the Program (and it is a piggyback unit to the ecu; not a chip) - unless you are planning to swap out your ecu for an older 4th gen. The Program requires dyno tuning and would probably run $1,000 total with questionable results from what I understand.

it is a chip upgrade...... sorry for the wrong wording!!!! it is through jetchip it costs 399 through them but through stillen it is 315 so u send it to them they up grade it to what you have done to ur car and program it the day that they get it and send it overnight to you so it is a 2 day turn around so ur car isnt out of commission for a long time i think it sounds good but i dunno....... they claim a 15+ gain to the wheels which i doubt but i will pay 315 if it gives aroun 7-10 at the wheel so ill let you know when i get it!!!! probably around next week if i can talk my mom into it!!!!!

I don't think that chip upgrade is for the 5th gen. I'm pretty sure it is for older models that are not OBDII compliant. I think you have to go back to 3rd gens for that to work. I know that Jim Wolf has an ecu upgrade for early 4th gens.

well i know for a fact that it is for the 5th gen b/c i talked to them on the phone and made sure of it....... it is upgrading the ECU in it now with better sh*t than stock....... so i guess they would know sorry to sound sarcastic but that is what they told me

Hey Will, you might want to do a search on that chip through the entire Max.org forum. There have been many discussions that might interest you.

Here were my STOCK Dyno #s

STOCK (FED. EMMISSIONS):

Outside Temp. = 66.1 F
Max Power = 174.3 FWHP at 115 mph
Max Torque = 172.6 ft-lbs at 80 mph

With Supercharger (but no y-pipe yet):

Outside Temp. = 76.3 F
Max Power = 250 FWHP
Max Torque = 217 ft-lbs

The guys at my shop had the baseline for the graph set in miles per hour instead of rpm. (They said the graph looks all screwed up if the baseline is in rpms when dynoing an automatic tranny)

Yep...look at my last plot.

The blip happens every time as the car slams into the rev limiter. It give a peak reading a few hp north of what it should be.

1. My car is modded... see my sig. (Thanks Zach for pointing this out).

2. My car is a 2001 so therefore it is a CA spec.

3. Regarding the output of a CA spec vs a Fed spec... the only dyno results I have seen were from ones with manual transmissions and the CA spec car made 10ft-lbs less torque up until 5000rpm, where they evened out. This means that there was NO peak HP difference between the two models, but you'd definitely feel the difference in acceleration in lower rpms. These results were posted by MadMax2k. Here's the link...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....887#post225887

So, it still looks like stock autos are making 160-165hp at the wheels. Anyone have any more data????
Read my post more closely. The Cali spec car was fitted with a Y-pipe and CAI while the Fed spec cars were stock.

With third gear being so long would it be more accurate to dyno in 2nd or 1st.

i asked them that and they said that the lower gears wont push out as much hp as the higher ones so i dunno..... it calculates how fast ur car spins the drums so 3rd i think is the most accurate.... i dunno

Aw ok, the reason I asked is because with cone intake and new muffler I dynoed 175hp in 2nd and 160hp in third.

thats funny i am going to get them to do 1st 2nd 3rd not 4th because it scares me to hear my car working like that..... i wonder if it will be different and what gear will be higher hp!!!!

Let us know what you find. It seems that most places want to get up to at least 100mph on dyno runs, but I'm not sure why. Maybe 2nd is dynoing higher than 3rd because our torque converters aren't slipping as much because there isn't as high a load being place on it in 2nd. Also, when you do this test, be sure to let the car cool sufficiently between runs. I'd hate to have that confuse the issue. I think 3rd might dyno a little less because of this also. Since it takes a longer time to dyno in 3rd vs 2nd, there may be some extra heating taking place which is lowering the HP numbers (just like when you do two dyno runs back to back... the 2nd is always a little less).

Just wanted to add a comment:
a while back there was a thread (in the General Discussion forum I think) which dealt with how to get the most accurate dyno numbers and I think the conclusion there was that you have to run in the gear that is as close to 1:1 ratio as possible or 4th in a manual and 3rd in an auto, otherwise you will get corrupt numbers . I don't remember ther exact reasons for this (I think it was given in the thread)

wait do you have an auto or 6spd? your sig says 6spd but for some 'reason' your post is making me think otherwise. either way 180 is low..
