5th Gen Auto Dyno Results
#1
I am looking for dyno results from any of you guys with automatic 5th Gen Maxes. I am particularily interested in stock numbers. I recall someone quoting a 26% loss due to drivetrain (putting his stock #s around 165 or so). I just had mine dyno'ed today as a baseline before doing my Federal exhaust manifold/Y-pipe mod. You can see my current mods in my sig. My results were:
HP - 174 @ 6500
Torque - 171 @ 3750
If you have stock dyno numbers, or can very closely estimate them based on your actual dyno results, please send them my way. If I get several responses, I'll post the results for all of us to know. Please tell me what year your car is and if it has Federal or CA emissions.
Also, if you have .jpg or .xls files with the raw data in them, I'll make a summary in Excel containing our stock dyno numbers. You could email those files to me at boosted@prodigy.net. THX!!!

By the way, I believe Paul2kGXE has dyno numbers: http://www.paulwendy.com

If our cars are putting down 160 stock, that's a remarkable 28% loss due to drivetrain... STUPID AUTO TRANNY!
That means my 173.8hp is more like 241.1hp at the crank.

why is there a 14 hp difference between two of the exact same cars?....174 hp and 171 tq translate to 22% drivetrain loss which is pretty good. Is there variation amongst dynos? Perhaps the conditions for Paul's dynos were different? It really doesn't make a lot of sense...I have heard of other stock autos getting up to like 175 hp.....

The HP is right on the money where a auto dynoed here locally a while back. The TQ I can not remember though where it was.

The reason that Desert has higher figures is that his car is Fed Spec, while mine is Cali Spec. I would like to go to the dyno a 3rd time to see what my OSCAI does.
Also... the results vary upon which gear you are in during the dyno plot. My figures are 5 HP higher in 2nd gear vs. 3rd gear. I dyno'd 170 in 2nd gear with my pop charger.
A 3rd item to consider. My figures are SAE corrected. Some people like to report uncorrected results when it works to their favor.

During our last dyno event, GR8BONE and I were 1 HP apart. His is Cali spec too. He had a slightly different cone intake on his car. Desert may have the automatic Sprung version. Sprung has a monster engine in his 5th gen stick. He dyno'd 200+ to the wheels.

Russ... you have Fed Spec in TX, right? His is Cali Spec. Those figures are on the high side for Cali Spec.

I have to say, I'm sceptical about the Fed vs Cali emissions making a big difference. If there was a difference, Nissan would have rated the Cali car with lower numbers, like Honda does. Apparently the difference is negligible, unless Nissan underrates the Fed car. The dyno differences can be due to variations between the cars, dyno models, air temperature, etc.

There Fed Spec flows better. They have one less precat. The ECU is also less polution friendly. In actuality, the HP rating should be lower for the Cali Spec cars. Mitsubishi does this with their cars. Usually the Cali Spec rating is 5-10 HP less. Nissan is being dishonest and the various dyno plots I've seen back that up.

Most of them do. You can have the computer print out corrected or uncorrected though. I'm not saying anyone here is doing that though. When you look at a plot, make sure it says SAE corrected on it.

Not saying that Desert has that problem.
DYNO PLOT: Stock(Run2) v. Y/SI(Run 5) v. Y/SI/UDP (Run 11)
DYNO PLOT: Air Fuel ratio (with all mods)

Okay, here are a few comments from my side.
1. My car is modded... see my sig. (Thanks Zach for pointing this out).
2. My car is a 2001 so therefore it is a CA spec.
3. Regarding the output of a CA spec vs a Fed spec... the only dyno results I have seen were from ones with manual transmissions and the CA spec car made 10ft-lbs less torque up until 5000rpm, where they evened out. This means that there was NO peak HP difference between the two models, but you'd definitely feel the difference in acceleration in lower rpms. These results were posted by MadMax2k. Here's the link...

So, it still looks like stock autos are making 160-165hp at the wheels. Anyone have any more data????

There you go flattering me again Paul...hehe. Sadly my couple of hp advantage will seem silly once thoes 3.5L Altimas hit the street!
How you been?

They dyno'd the same stock and then they both dyno'd the same with mods (one had SI and Y; the other CAI and Y).
On later plots, we picked up a couple hp by dropping the exhaust after the cat. We also picked up a couple running MT-90 and Mobil 1.

I simply went to the thread posted by Desert Pearl. Here is a quote from madmax2k's post:
Heres a plot of 3 different Maximas. Two are stock, and one has a Y-pipe and SI. Guess which one is the Cali spec?

Doing pretty good... spending way too much time on Maxima.org.
Are you going to help me take out my friend's Impala SS this Friday? I think this may require a 5 speed or Tony's boost.

Click on the y-pipes section, then you'll see a diagram showing the differences.

I probably won't be able to make it Fri, my inlaws are coming into town and they always keep me busy, you know how it is. What's planned for Fri. anyway?
