time needed to check code on SES light

Hi there.

I know you guys from the US have your "its-free-to-retrieve-your-SES-code-Autozones", but here in Montreal, it looks like I have to pay for that.

The stealership wants to charge me 50 bucks for the job. Do you know how much time is needed to retrieve this code?

im thinking about buying my own OBDII scanner...

thanks

I saw a Action OBDII scanner reader for 80 at autozone when I was unloading 26 quart of used oil.

^^ it takes less than 1 min to read a code. the hard part is to find the plug and waiting to load with ECU ( about 20 sec).

I think have to leave the engine on when reading a code, but I'am not sure, ask around

Your best bet is to buy an OBDII code reader. As mentioned it only takes a minute for the reader to work.

NYC TAR - the key should be in the 'ON' position, but don't start the engine.

Checker Auto has a special for the Equis OBDII reader. $114 on the website, but my local store has it for $99. I got mine over a year ago and it was $129 from Mid State Auto in Texas.
