6000k or 8000k d2r bulbs

Has anyone upgraded their d2r hid bulbs to 6000k or 8000k? What is a good brand that looks real nice and is not too dim on the road? I realy want a purplish look. Any suggestions would be great, and if anyone has pictures please post and list what brand it is.

The higher the K's the less light is given off. You basically buy the higher k's for color. Stock ones are brighter then both. I would go with the 6000k's those are my next choice since I had the 8000k's. www.xenondepot.com

around 5800K is the brightest the lights will be. 12,000K will give you a purple effect but the light output will be alot lower.

If you want quality bulbs then philips 6000k is the best.
If you want nice 6000k with a nice purple hue i believe umnitza sells 6000k d2r bulbs, if not then check ebay.

If you want purple, you might consider 8500K or 12000K but they will be a lot dimmer than your OEM. 6000K should give out purple/white color. OEM is brighter than 6000K though.

i was looking into getting either 6000 or 8000K dr2 bulbs as well, but i wasnt sure if there were any bulbs that i could find for the foglights to match the headlights. With the stock bulbs, the PIAA super plasmas match almost perfectly.

Xtec 6000K HID fog kit (looks blue without the headlights)

8000K Xtec HID Headlights

Notice that the Fogs become more purple when they are next to the blue headlights.

hey trexmax, i really like your HID fogs, but i thought the 8000k kit was supposed to be more blue/purple than the 6000k? in the pics it looks like the opposite...is that just the pic, or is it really like that?

I'd stick with a 5000k for a nice color and more light output to the ground.

I don't really care to change mine, however our 4300Ks are white unlike most colored D2S HIDs and drivers think I have my brights on and highbeam me.

Would 5000K add some color, but not be blue/purple?

Unfortunately, every companies k rating differs, some are more blue/purple than others and some are white. Your best bet is to see it before you buy it.

From my understanding 5000k will give a slight blueish color but be white for the most part.

i think in general you're right but it still can depend on the manufacturer.

Exactly...every companies k ratings are different...they are all just a marketing scam...for some reason people think the higher the k rating the brighter...result = people driving around with "10000K HIDS"....

Also, anyone ever tried/read about using something like this "booster" to go from 35W-->50W on the D2R burners?

I believe yes, since the ballast regulates the output voltage to 35W no matter what the input voltage ranges from, ie 10V-14V, or whatever.

Not sure how this thing works, yet.

I believe the "booster" is a replacement ballast that can output 50w.

Does anyone know where I can get 5000K Philips? Anyone have links, pics? Do all bulbs come with the ballast? Do I need a new ballast when going from stock to 5000K? Thanks a million, any help is appreciated.

There's a pair of NEW Phillips D2R 5000k bulbs on eBay right now for around $75.

The 5000k models are listed under the 85126+ part number.
