Painted grill...black on black
Here's some pics of my grill painted black (now, if they only made some "paint chips" colored paint to match the rest of the bumper)
first pic is of mine (early 5th gen)
second pic is of Tom's (Bluesbrekr) (later 5th gen) just for comparison's sake.
I plan to smoke the front hamburger at a later time....
and yes, I know his car looks nicer

I'd rather make the emblem less visible than more visible, frankly....which is why it's gonna get smoked. The less chrome-colored stuff the better IMO (on a black max...) I was just commenting to Rob (dblrr) that I'm not a big fan of the huge hamburger on the newer maxes personally (or on any of the new nissans, for that matter). Just my opinion though - I know alot of you guys do like the bigger badge
Are you all done with your grill project, by the way?

so here's the before and after....because of lighting it's not a great comparison...more of a subtle change...more noticeable in person.
Hmm, can't seem to find a decent old pic of my front end (I've never liked the front view of the maxima especially with all the chipped paint, so I don't take pics of it..so here's someone else's black maxima:
mine:
like I said...tough to see the difference unless in bright sunlight....

Hehe, I guess I should be thankful. My grille has always been a flat black color. Everybody else's grille is painted close to the grey lustre color, but mine is just black. Hehe, and I'm always the only 5th gen at the meets with a naturally black grille. So weird. =D

Your grille looks great. Mine looks the same. The black is subtle but very noticable next to a stock grille. I had mine painted after some idiot ran into my bumper in a parking lot. Body shop painted bumper and I asked them to do the grille. That was a couple years ago and it still looks great IMO. And I like the smaller emblem, too.

well yeah, i'm a long time customer of theirs so he knows where he wants to make money and where not to. i bring all my friends there, which he charges "fair" prices, but to me he gives me the "low down dirty deal". i bring him a LOT, and i mean A LOT of business.
an example, a coworker here was returning an explorer from a lease. the whole right side of the truck had this nasty scratch at which the leasing dept. said they would charge (he went to return it early just to see what they would say, so he had to time to get everything fixed and still return it on time). i said "let's take a quick trip to my shop, see what he says". i work 5 minutes from the body shop, so we take the ride, explain to my buddy that we dn't want a big deal, we just want it to look good enough to return. he cracks out the compound and the buffer and proceeds to work on it. keep in mind, he was working on a car and when i showed up, he put everything down to help me. 20 minutes he was on the explorer. when he was done, you could bairly see the scratch. overall, a 90% improvement from how it looked prior. he said "that's enough, return it like that and you can get away with it". my friend said "great, how much i owe you"....my buddy said "oh please...don't worry....he's a good guy, my favorite customer, dont' worry, this was nothing". nonetheless, he gave him 20 bucks and said thanx anyway.
i've built a big relationship with them and i usually don't talk money. i prefer quality, and talk money later.
he fixed another friends Tsion Xa a few months ago...replaced rear driver door shell, fixed and painted both front quarter panels, rear driver quarter panel, front driver door, front and rear bumper, and obviously the new bare driver rear door. parts+labor....$1600....don't know about you, but my jaw dropped both when i heard the price and i saw the car. brand brand new.
