2nd-3rd Shift in 2002 Auto...

So I know people have reported all kinds of problems with the auto trans on these 5th gens. I'm wondering if mine is showing signs of going and if I should have Nissan do something about it before it reaches 60k...

First to second is pretty smooth and quick, same with third to fourth. However, second to third is never quick...always takes a second, like shifting in a manual..the car lags back for a seocnd while the transmission goes to 3rd gear. Is this how all your autos work in these 5th gens or is this a sign that something could be going? I also noticed that when I'm doing highway or higher speed driving (50+), letting off and getting back on the gas causes a kind of jolt that is not too harsh, but definitely noticeable to the people in the car.

So what's up with my tranny? It was just "serviced" by Nissan like 1,000 miles ago.

Thanks,
Brian

The driveline jolt is normal (engine torque) but the 2/3 delayed shift is not. Have it checked out (line pressure test.)

Yeah, that's exactly what mine's doing. It's got 49k miles on it, i just got it like a month ago, and it's been doing it since, so I don't know how long before that. I should also note that the car doesn't seem to have been beat up, since the inside is immaculate, and the outside is pretty good except for a few minor scratches and paint problems (Nissan's fault).

Same tranny behavior in mine since new. I think it is just how these trannies work, which kinda sucks. Just keep servicing it regularly, like every 15k miles.

I had a problem with the 1-2 shifts. Under normal driving 2-3 is kind of slow but feels normal. Under heavy throttle it gets alot crisper. I just had my valvebody replaced (for free!!!) per a TSB. Check into that first before paying a lot of money.

Mine has that characteristic under WOT, BigDu. I had my local Nissan dealer svc dept (Acme Nissan, NJ) look into it only to tell me that they dont see anything wrong with it.

Hempstead meaning outside Houston? I can recommend Baker-Jackson Nissan on 290, their service has been GREAT! So far they've pretty much done everything I've asked.
