Trunk doesn't close properly

Trunk doesn't close properly

As the subject says, I can pop it as usual but I have to slam it a few times before it actually catches...anyone have this problem or a solution to it? Thanks.

Don't know if this is your solution, but the 2k and 2k1 maximas had a TSB regarding the rear bumper not being aligned properly. Since it was not aligned properly, the trunk would hit or rub the top of the bumper when it tried to shut (mine did). It required an adjustment of the rear bumper by the dealer to straighten it out. If it is hitting the bumper, you should see scratches on the bumper from the trunk lid hitting it.

If not the above, then maybe there's something caught in your trunk latch or it's just sticking, maybe it needs some oil or grease?

You can also adjust the latch bar itself to allow it to drop down enough to latch properly.
