resetting ecu on a 2k

My Haynes manual's instructions for resetting the ecu don't seem to fit what I'm seeing. It shows the right place to look for my ecu (or pcm as they call it) but it says there should be a selector on the side facing the gas pedal, I don't see it. Does anyone know where the selector is or just how to reset the ecu on a 2k max? Thanks.

The Haynes Manual re the clearing codes/reset is for Gen. 4s. They screwed up and never updated this info for the Gen. 5s. There is no user switch on your '00. Don't waste your time looking for it. You can try disconnecting battery (IGN. Switch OFF) and reconnecting. PCM will have to RELEARN and this can take up to about an hour of REASONABLE driving. Expect idle to be abnormal for a while including possibly a couple of stalls.

After thinking about I believe that to clear any codes and reset the CEL you will have to find someone with at least a standard OBD ll scanner.

I've noticed that, it seems like every job I do on the car I run into that problem, the pictures and instructions are all 4th gens, thanks. Maybe I'll do the battery thing like you and my 2000 max suggested. It's definitly the easy way to do it.

yea, just write down your radio presets, unplug the battery, step on the brakes a couple of time and I heard by doing that it should clear all residual electrical charges in the ecu... but if not leave it unplugged for a couple of hours.

Thanks guys installed the MAF and reset the ecu today, supprisingly the car didn't ride rough at all after starting her back up, it's like the ECU didn't need to adjust. Pretty happy with that. Again thanks.

My max was running smoothly until today. I got a check engine light and the car's riding really rough on acceleration. I pulled the neg. batt cable and put the old MAF back on. It's still riding pretty rough, but the check engine light is off. Not sure if it's off b/c I put the old MAF back on or b/c i reset the ecu when I had the batt cable off for the 15 min it took me to take the new one off and put the old one on. Is this what you meant about it riding rough for a while? Should the check eng. light come on? Thanks.
