2000 SE Max owner looking to upgrade...

I haven't posted in awhile (in fact my the last time I remember posted I could search )

Basically I have gotten to the point where I feel like a new[er] car. My 2k has done well by me. I love the Max's balance of power and civility and the community of dedicated owners.

I had been hoping to move quite a bit up the food-chain and get an Infiniti G35 Sedan. I have been purusing those forums for several months much like the few months leading up to my current Maxima's purchase. The trouble is that the G is just a bit out of my price range (that and I have NO local dealers). I very much dislike the 2004+ Maxima's "style" (I thought it would grow on me and it hasn't, sorry to all the 6th Gen owners!).

That leaves me considering leaving the Nissan family. My friend just got a 2005 Suburu Legacy GT sedan (that thing scoots!). It is a bit smaller inside than the Max, particularly in the back seat, but Suby has a hit on their hands in every other way. Also, AWD is a very cool thing. Another car in my sights is the Acura TSX, but I would have to resign myself to a less powerful (albeit more luxurious) car.

However, I also started thinking about buying used again. This would let me mod the car more easily. On that train of thought only one car made it on my list:

2003 Nissan Maxima w/6spd

I have gotten progressively more excited about this over the past few days to the point where this is making alot of sense to me. The price point is hovering around the 20k mark and the car is just an update to everything I already like.

So what I need is help finding one Any suggestion of dealers in my area? (I live in Southern Indiana, so Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago and Atlanta I consider in my area LOL) I have posted to the ORGs classifieds with zero repsonse and haven't found any 2003s on there with the specs that I want:

Must be a 2003 (I figure that all the little issues from 2002 were taken care of in the update)
Must be a 6spd
Must have Leather
Must have a Moonroof
Must be a silver shade or the Neptune Blue.

Any help would be appreicated. Thanks everyone!

Selling A 00 Max S.e. 43k Miles Not 6spd. Its Silver/gray. Not Grey Lustre. Its More Silver. Selling For 13,900. Dealer Would Want 16-17k For It. Let Me Know. Price Is Negotiable. Its A Nice Car. Clear Title. I Bought It 4 Months Ago And I Cannot Afford To Renew My Insurance. Found Out It Will Cost My 250/month Just For Insurance. Its A Nice Buy. I Love It And So Will You.

Thanks for the replies thus far guys (and gals should the case be). But I really am only looking for a 2003 model year. I realize that's extremely picky, but its my preference.

Maxxximus, have ya tried autotrader.com? Or other similar car sites? eBay maybe?

Btw, you should not have to pay for more than 20k for a 2003... I think they're a little less these days... depending on the mileage and options... good luck with everything...

And yeah... a 2005 Legacy GT would be sweet...

Platinum edition? I know of the titanium edition. What extra stuff is on a platinum edition?

I have actually found a 2003 6spd one-owner trade in at a dealer in Minnesota...which is a bit far for my tatses. I have not negotiated or anything yet. Anyone have experience with Wayzata Nissan, Twin Cites, MN?
That said, I am still looking for something a bit closer, in one of my primary color choices (the one above is black on black).

Yeah, Autotrader was where I found the one above. I haven't tried Ebaymotors, but I probably should, shouldn't I?

Thanks for all the input. If the used Max doesn't happen, the Subaru will likely be my next choice (if any at all).

Sounds like a dealership... I personally prefer private sellers when going used...

I feel ya Maxxximus. Do good research and don't settle for less. As long as you have a ride, you don't have to make desperate decisions.

I wanted a Max bad for over a year but I patiently waited until I saw the right one. Finally spotted one on Cars.com (just happened to be local) in the color, interior, trim (SE), tranny (m) and most importantly price. Got a 02 for $13k because of high mileage. The word on the street is that Nissans are good no matter what the mileage is. Good luck and happy hunting!

Thanks for the support guys!

That 2003 in South Florida wasn't a 6spd by any chance? Hell for that price I would give up leather and whatnot and do it myself! I am thinking it must be a GXE, right?!

Yeah, the other recent cars I bought were kind of nessecity. I really screwed up though on the Mustang Cobra purchase - traded in a 96 240SX SE before I understood that you can MOD!

Yeah, my Max is still running strong. Unless I find the perfect used car, I think I will be talking myself into a Legacy GT

(Couple of things about that, getting way, way of the subject It is damn near impossible to modify the Suby's stock audio system. The console is all one piece, including electronics. That wouldn't be a problem except that the climate controls are a part of that as well. The JDM version of the car has a 2-piece unit that is double-DIN, but their climate control is different. SHEESH!!!)

Dude, that's a minor problem... to me that is, since it depends on what your priorities are... if I had the chance... I'd take one of those any day after what I've seen around me. With some bolt on's for less than $1000, that baby will be up to 300+ awhp... talk about some crazy potential.... to get my 02 to 250+ whp N/A, I'd have to spend somewhere in the region of $2000 I believe... maybe even more, and actually, it might not even get there.

I'm gonna go hide now... because y'all are gonna start to crap on me for saying all that...

BUT... I do love my Maxima.... and the luxury just isn't there in a Subaru... well it isn't quite the same in a Subaru, it is nice, but not "luxurious"... it definitely has a different (cheaper? ) feel to it... and there's also the famous Suby tranny problems....

I think in light of the recent posts I have seen, its time for one to address this specific alternate car situation:
