PIAA super plasmas suck or what

I have PIAA super plasma's

I have, as of this morning, blown yet another fog light.
This is the third one this year.(not all the same side)
It seems to happen if I use them in the rain.
It could be a coincidense, but I think the only time this has happened
is when it has rained.

Any one else have **** poor luck with these bulbs.

they are ridiculously expensive and don't seem to last for $hit, at least not for me anyway

The first two I bought used from an org memeber so no warrenty.
The last one I blew the guy at PIAA was cool on the phone,,,told me take it back to the shop I bought it from no problem. The guy at the shop treated my like I was a lying scam artist. Now I think if he see's me again he's really gonna give me a tough time. I'll still do it Fock him it's my money and like oyu said they are warrented.

I was just wondering if any one else had bad luck with these bulbs

naw i've had them for about three years now, nothing close to that has occured....have you checked all the wiring? fuses? using the 35 watt version, placing the wire that plugs into the light in a safe area, making sure the cap is twisted on 100% after installing the bulbs. Because if it really only happens when it rains then a pos and neg wire is touching each other through a driplet of water. this happens to my DDES after i wash my car...i will be hardwiring them soon because i've though sooo many times they blow out, but i just wait for it to dry up and it is fine after.

Had my PIAA Ion Crystal Yellow fogs on for a couple months now... no problems yet... there was another thread (started by Ghostrider, maybe?) about this recently... so I think there are others who've experienced similar short lives of fog bulbs... and yeah, if its less than a year, def try to get the warranty replacement....

1.5 years with Ion Crystals and I have only blown one. The one that blew was in a fog housing that had a rock hole in it. Can't blame it for blowing after a while. New fogs for the last 6 months and no problems.

which is pretty good considering I had your Ion crystals in MY foglights for a couple months before I sold them to you...so tack 2 months onto the life of yours Joel

This is why I like my Narva/candlepower golds. They only cost like $10 each (or less) so I bought 2 extras.....PIAA you're paying for alot of name, IMHO....not to say they're not good bulbs, but I tend to think Philips (which are Narva/Candlepower also) and Sylvania products have a better track record and more longevity

Thanks for the reminder Josh.... but I also forgot to mention that I don't leave my fogs on unless its raining, misty, or foggy (fog is rare around here).

And yeah, if I do need a replacement when "your" PIAAs burn out, I will go down the Narva/Candlepower route... if I didn't get the PIAAs from ya used, I'd never have shelled out $20 a bulb or whatever it was, for them new anyways.

Sorry to jack the thread , and I'm sure it's been asked a million times before, but which non-HID fog bulb, in you guys' opinions, best matches the stock HID headlights? I really hate how the stock fogs are just plain incandescent (sp?) and how drastically they contrast with the HIDs. Thanks for the help.

Haha... I actually went for yellower bulbs to increase the contrast with the HIDs and also like you said, make em look like something other than a bulb you'd put in a table lamp in your living room...

I'm sure these guys will be able to help ya out though...

PIAA Super plasmas are generally considered closest match. Pics on my site. I've run them for nearly 1 yr. No issues.

I had them 3 months and lost 1 bulb. Sent the bad one back to Opt-Auto where I bought them. Ended up having to send the good one back as well. PIAA evaluates them to determine if it's a real bulb failure or if the bulb failed because it was touched or got wet. I got a new set, but while they were being evaluated I ran the stock bulbs I took out. If the failures continue I figure I'll never have to pay for more. They never seem to get to a year from what I'm hearing, so they are under warrantee.

Opt-Auto has been very good, very cooperative. I recommend you buy through them.

These bulbs do match the HID best in my opinion.

Yes, I starting doing that after the first one blew because I tought it was my fault. As for the wiring in a safe place,,,it's located where Nissan placed it, on the engine side of the fender wall. But interesting enough when I unplugged the conector water did drip out of it and I thought the same as you, shorted out......I wonder if I put white lithium grease in that outside connector on the fender well if it will water proff it? Anyone know?

there is a 33 watt version of the super plasma must be new where can I find it, how about a fog light bulb wiring harnest upgrade. I remember on my old 93 max I always used xenon bulbs and they never lasted long untill I upgraded the wiring harnest

Call PIAA, they'll send you a set of bulbs Thats what I did when mine 'burnt' out. The gal on the phone didn't even questioned me after I told her that it burnt out, no questions asked, a new set arrived UPS at my door in a couple days. Of course, this was years ago, so their policy might have changed.

I had the same thing happen through 4 bulbs (5 months tops)- Finally changed to PIAA Extreme Whites and no problems (going on 8 months ). I know they don't match as well but I can't keep shelling out $60 or sending back bulbs 3 times a year. The guy at the local autosport store said he gets more PIAA Super Plasma's back than all other bulbs combined. Poorly made. Too bad they match so well.
