Picked her up FINally

I got my 02 maxi last night. She is beutiful. 6spd leather. all the good stuff.
One thing i noticed while test driving two different maximas was a kind of hesitation the second you get on the gas in most gears. It was the same on both cars. Is this normal due to the drive by wire or is it just a WEIRD coincidence. And know this must have been brought up before but i couldnt find anything recent. Please post up links if there is somewhere i can go to find some info. TIA

Click below. There is a TSB out for the hesitation you describe.

Also....congrats on your purchase and welcome to the org.

TSB

It is due to the drive by wire. I dont know if I would recommend doing the TSB though. I never have. I just refuse to take my car back to Nissan again just for a "little" issue like that. Maybe my hesitation is not that bad, but I dont trust them.

Every TSB I have gone in for turned out to cost me in the long run. They do the work either half asssed or they mess something else up in the process (like wrecking my car). Just use caution when making decisions to get stuff done by them. They tend to make you pay for it some how.

Congrats on the car, and enjoy.

Check the gas cap. Remove it and replace it carefully and be sure it seats properly. It is not the greatest design. The retainer strap tends to get bound up under the cap so that the cap doesn't seal, and this causes the SES light to come on after 30 or 40 minutes.

If this is the problem, after you replace the gas cap correctly the light will go off after about 1/2 hour or less of driving.

well. I checked the cap Sunday morning. It seemed like it may have been loose. I made sure it was tight this time. The light is still on, as of 6:30 this morning(monday). Ill give it a couple days then maybe use my warranty ( this will be a first for me, ever)

Ah, that's too bad. Sorry for you. I know about the gas cap because it has happened to me two or three times... nasty sinking feeling when you see that damned light. But if it didn't reset itself after 30 min. or so of driving then the gas cap wasn't the (only) problem. If you've got a warranty they should take care of it for you though. Still a pain to have to take it in.

I hope you'll enjoy the car. They are pretty nice by most accounts. Not perfect, but not bad for the money, and a reasonable compromise between entertainment and utility, especially if you only have one car. I have a 6-spd too. It's not the smoothest-shifting manual you can find, but it gets the job done pretty well. At least you get the feeling you're throwing around some real metal, not erector set gears. I have to say, Nissan pretty much nailed the drivetrain, more so than the rest of the car. After 2 1/2 years I still melt a bit when I get a chance to go WOT in 2nd and 3rd. What a sweet sound, and for a 5 passenger car it does give you a nice firm push in the backside.
