I had my car dyno tested today on a dynojet. Three runs, max power was 191 hp, best torque was 197. Is this normal for an 02 auto or are the results too low?

you should be in 210hp - 220 tq

Ahhh yes, but remember....even different dynos read differently on the same car.

Those at STD corrected not SAE (upper right of the page CF: STD). Can't remember offhand if that makes your results better or worse.

Unfortunately yes. If you can provide the exact temp and baro conditions I'll figure SAE out for you. It's bad news though. Assuming 60deg where you pulled your best SAE figures would be 187fwhp, 193.2tq. Hopefully all cars are low on that unit?

your tranny is slipping, these numbers really suck. I pulled more with my bone stock 5spd GXE, you only beat my TQ by like 3lbs, but I made 198WHP stock on 15" steel wheels.

I dont know too much about the way dyno testing works, but the guys who were doing dyno on my car said they had a difficult time dialing in the numbers what ever that means. And also I don't know on automatic trannys what gear you are supposed to read results from but the guy told me he had to start the pull from 2nd gear. I think maybe they did something wrong cause my car seems to pull real good on the road and the tranny has no slippage.

That definitely is a touch lower than most, but its still within the law of averages. You could dyno 10 identical cars and there will be a range of 10-15hp, its very common. Thats still a pretty nice tq curve. I wonder how they got the tranny not to downshift at 3k rpm. They might have "rolled" into the throttle, which wouldmean it wasnt producing the max hp/tq until the had it at WOT. I doubt they didnt have it floored where your peak numbers were made however, so I dont think it would drastically affect the outcome.

More important than dyno numbers are track times. Have you ever been to the 1/4 mile? Dyno's are ONLY tuning devices, no more no less. The strip is the only number you should worry about if you are concerned about power & speed.

Results are a little low but also remember the car is an auto, the manual makes about a little over 200hp right? so the auto's should be in the 190's somewhere. torque is prob a little low but i am not sure.

should have had it in 3rd at around 65mph and hit it from there. dynoing in 3rd gear would yield closer to 1:1 and would be easier to compare it to other auto dynos on here.

Seems low. Especially if its STD correction... With Intake and Y I dyno'd 206hp/216tq SAE.

STD isn't much of a correction, that's basically a run using the local environmental variables (e.g. uncorrected) SAE correction is what levels the field.

My bone stock 3.0 ran 191 hp and 188 tq, I would hope the vq35 would do a ittle better than that...

he said the operator started the roll in 2nd so im assuming he just left it in second and ran it to the rev limiter.

Yeah he said that he did the roll in 2nd because if it was in drive the car wanted to downshift when he stepped on it. Maybe thats why the results arent the best.

Yes. That is exactly why your results are not where they are supposed to be. For manual tranny guys. we oput the car in 4th gear. That's the closest 1:1 ratio. For the autos i would assume the closet 1:1 would be 3rd gear. I could be wrong, some guys on here can tell you for sure. I wish I could remember who did the dyno's in different gears on the 5.5th gen 6 speed. He did a dyno in different gears and showed how each gear had different numbers with 4th giving the highest torque and hp numbers. It also showed how our 2nd gear really sucked on hp and tq. (this is no releavce to the auto guys) Hopefully someone can post that dyno and you can see how each gear produces different numbers.
