My fog lights suck!!!

My fog lights are so bad that I never even use them... I can't even tell they are on. Are there any type of updates I can do to them? Even new bulbs? I saw someone had some type of hyperwhite type projectors for them... did anyone else hear of this or change out their fogs so they actually work???

the design of our fog lights is simply cosmetic....I have opened them up and they obviously are not designed like "real" fog lights to be effective in fog. These days, most cars' fog lights are just for style, not really effective. Plus our fogs use a 55W bulb, which is not very strong at all. My Lancia in Italy had (as I recall) 105W circular Hella fog lights (yellow). Those things REALLY cut through fog!

what do you want them to do? more visibility in fog? or you just wanna use them for show? for brighter fog lights, get the hid kit. but they will suck in fog

I don't care about looks. I just want them to cut through the fog. Is there anything at all I can do?

uh.....no. For fog, the aim needs to be lower, the idea is to direct the beam "below" the fog. Also, yellow bulbs will help tpo some extent.

Exactly, next time you are in fog, turn your brights on and see if it helps.

correctly aim them, then consider a bulb upgrade.

2kMaximaSE....as someone who's done basically every fog light "mod" besides HID fogs (Lexus capsules, Narva yellow bulbs, Lamin-x, etc.) , I can honestly tell you that no matter what you do, the fogs will be of little or no use in fog. The reflection pattern of the reflectors is not good for "aiming" the beam correctly, nor is the bulb nearly bright enough. My suggestion: either look into some kind of "true" aftermarket fogs or try to upgrade the watttage on your factory fogs....

Did you actually up the wattage on yours? Did it help any or should I just save my money?

Fog Lites SCHMOG lites

They aren't technically FOG lites, they are DRIVING lites.

Fogs lamps are Yellow, and used for improved vision in FOGGY conditions.
I drive in foggy conditions AT nite, MAYBE once every five years.

Yes they ARE largely cosmetic, but driving lites are installed on vehicles to improve the scope of light onto those parts of the road and roadside that are not normally illuminated by the headlights....read; AUXILLARY lights.

If you notice, our lamps illuminate the shoulder and curb areas of the road ahead. Technically, these lites are used to give you better vision on darkened roads (mostly in the country where streetlights are not present) and oncoming traffic prevents employing your high beams appropriately.

MOST people use these lites incorrectly by leaving them on constantly in the city and on the highway. THis does little more than to annoy other drivers, as the improvement in roadside illumination is literally nil.

I often use my driving lites simply to annoy other people, as my "see and be seen" motorcycle mentality tells me that being seen more often is more safe than being ignored by other drivers.
But that's just me.....

end rant.

DO NOT DO THIS.....you will melt your lamp housing and the wiring harnesses!

Would it help -- YES, but only until the lamps melted-down, and you had to buy new ones!

no, I didn't.
You would have to re-wire the lights to handle higher wattage.
