Does Tire Size make a Difference? ? ?

I have a question. I currently own a 2001 nissan maxima gle with the stock rims and tires THE RIMS ARE SIZE 16" AND THE TIRES cooper tires are the oem size 16 tires

My friend recently removed His rims and tires from his g35 sedan
THE RIMS ARE SIZE 17" AND THE TIRES ARE GOOD YEAR EAGLE RS-A THE TIRE SIZE IS P215/55/R17

HE WANTS ME TO HAVE THEM FOR FREE!!

WILL I GET A BETTER RIDE AND HANDLING BY HAVING THE 17" WHEELS AND TIRES ???

WILL THEY FIT MY CAR, THEY ARE 5 LUG AS WELL!

17s will handle better than the 16s because the sidewalls are smaller but it will be a slightly stiffer ride.

Check the offset to see if the wheels will fit your car. You'll want them to be in the +35-40 range.

215's seem real narrow, as maximas now come with 225s stock.

good luck, give them a shot.

assuming your oem 16 size is 215/55R16
all you will gain is having 17inch wheels and an increase in the overall diameter of your wheel/tire combo. the G35 wears (as you stated) 215/55R17

both tires are 215mm wide ~ 8.46inch
both tires have an aspect ratio of 55 215 X .55 = 118.25mm (4.65inch) sidewall height.

the only thing that is different is the rim diameter. 16 vs 17
so 215/55R16 = 4.65+4.65+16=25.3 inch diameter

your new free wheels will be 26.3 inch tall from a handling aspect you will need to get a 50 series tire say a 225/50R17
or a 45 series tire 235/45R17 if the wheel is the proper width.

fwd vs rwd offset

G35 are rear-wheel drive, probably use a different offset than Fwd Max ...

So the only thing i'm gaining is an additional inch in wheel/tire diameter ??
So I will get a stiffer ride. That is better it correct? No difference in handling? They are not wider tires, they are the same size tires overall just 17"..

THE RIMS WILL FIT THE CAR CORRECT??

ISOKE9,

Use this URL to determine your offset. That way you don't have to have your
speedometer adjusted. Enjoy!!!

Hmm. I guess i've never seen one that wasn't a G35x then. Probably just a coincidence that the 3 people i know with them all have awd.

ride quality wont change. IMHO, no change in handling. as far as offet is concearned. the G35 may be a rear/AWD drive car but the OEM wheel typically have a FWD offset. et 30mm or higher. if your friend already has the wheels off the car, look at the back of them and you can usually find a casting that tells you the offset. it will look like this "" ET 30"" or ""OFFSET 30"" i only used 30 as an example, you may see 35,40,42 or 45.

(you may be able to find out the offset if you check some of the G35 forums)

we all know maximas have huge fender gap (stock suspension) so the increase in diameter might help to cure that problem. the G35 wheel have the same bolt pattern (5x114.3mm/4.5in) as a maxima and i am pretty sure the hub bore is still the same standard NIssan, 66.06mm. if you have search you might be able to find a pic of a Maxima with G35 wheel on it, i think it was a 5th gen.

yea the G35 wheels will fit on our maximas and you will only really be filling the gap of our in fender space. Doesnt matter if they came off a G35 coupe/sedan/ or AWD they will fit and if your getting them for free why not, you might as well and give your car a different look.
Just my .02 cents!
