Max SE 5spd...First impression
First of all, this car is truly awesome! It is so responsive and quick! Even though that I stalled plenty of times taking off from first, but once I got it going...it was soooo sweet! 
Now...if I didn't experience the bucking from the "fuel cut" problem first hand, I would never have know how bad it was. When I was driving in Chicago traffic, I was being jerked back and forth so forcefully that I was getting sick! It is truly bad in first and second gear, but I can feel a little bit of it in the other gears also. Driving was almost unbearable in 1st gear. Feathering the gas peddle is just not an option in traffic driving...
Can someone tell me if the TSB that came out helped this problem a little bit?
Other than that "little" problem, along with the high rpm on 5th gear for highway driving, I believe that this is one of the best cars I've driven (compared to Accord, Camry, Integra, and such)

ok, i dunt think the buckin ur experiencing is from the fuel cut... i think ur just not shifting really well. fuel cut usually just pulls the car a little when in gears cruising.. i belive. try a searh on fuel cut issues.
Oh...I know I'm shifting badly...for now...but I am experiancing the jerking motion while I'm in first or second gear...without touching the clutch in anyway while driving slowly. I feel it in other gears too, but just not as bad.

I drove my friend's new 2001 AE
and didn't notice any weird jerking motions
maybe you can try pushing the clutch in when you feel it jerking around (throw it in neutral or downshift)? if your goign too slow in a higher gear
this will happen.
anyhow, the maxima has a soft, forgiving clutch. It's not a bad car to learn to drive stick on.

Max SE 5spd...First impression

I had an SVT Contour that did have the dreaded throttle hang. Let me describe this problem. The problem was that when you rev and then clutch, the throttle would "hang" at hig revs (ie 6000 rpm) and only slowly settle down to a lower rpm.
The "bucking" motion you are describing would not be caused by this hang, if anything the car would surge forward when you drop the clutch in the next gear because the revs are too high. The Contour's problem was improved by restricting the intake air, but not eliminated. I find some "hang" in my SE 5spd Max, but nothing compared to the SVT.
To eliminate the bucking I suggest to GENTLY use the throttle in 1st or 2nd; the engine is too powerful and will tend to buck with fast throttle movements. I find the car works fine in heavy NJ/NY traffic, unless I have to come to a complete stop.

If I just try to let up on the gas to slow down, the engine brakes and I slow down hard, and when I step on the gas lightly to get going, I launch ahead. And then when I'm just trying to maintain a constant speed sometimes with just a very small movement of my feet (I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone can hold at an exact position) causes several jerks...
I know I'm new to a manual xmsn, but that should not be any different than driving an automatic while IN gear, right? I understand that the car is jerky when I shift, but this happens when I'm just feathering the gas peddle in 1st or 2nd gear in traffic (NOT taking my feet off and then slamming it back on).
I'm sorry if I come across as being defensive...or if I offend, I do not intend to. I just want to state my point and hope to see if anyone can help me out.

I have never driven anything other than a stick and I am very good with a stick especially one I have driven for a while. The fuel cut problem definitely exists in my AE. I would not characterize it as a bad problem or a major flaw in the car. It just has a trailing throttle "hitch" that usually is noticable only by the driver. However, it can be very noticable if the driver lifts very quickly with the engine high in the power band. I have simply adjusted the way I drive the car as opposed to my 3000GT VR-4.
If this is when the engine is cold then it's normal. The fuel mapping is all different and the engine is trying to warm up, it takes me a couple of miles (3-4 minutes) before seeing some heat in on the guage.
If it happens when the engine is hot you either have a problem or you need more practice. Obviously if you are in first things are going to be alot harsher than a slopomatic in first.
