Snow?
I have Cooper Lifeliners on my Max. But I must say this. In the snow, the maxima will suck regardless of the tires you have on it. If you have extra money laying around, buy a set of snowtires. I will always look at the maxima as more of a car better suited for drier conditions. ( can't romp on it in the rain or snow )

I have blizzak's on the Max for winter. They seem to work good for light snow. We just got 14 to 16 inches of snow here in Dayton Oh. this past wednesday and thursday. Thats when it pays to have the Frontier 4x4. The max is still in the garage.

Yea... first step is getting rid of the stock tires... I drove around with those for a year by avoiding the snow at all costs, but i had to change them cuz it got really annoying.. So i got Michelin Pilot A/S from Costco... $880 installed and balanced. I love it now... Its great in rain and snow
Now.. the Max is not a 4x4, but i can tell you this... Today morning we had over 6" of snow in Waltham, MA and i had to move my car for the plow truck, so i warmed up my Max and gently moved it without getting stuck! This may not be case for everyone, but thats just the latest experience i had... I defenitely feel like its sliding when im taking a turn sometimes, but its nothing compared to the Potenzas. I've seen many 4x4s sliding all over the place too! So the driver is a major factor in driving in hazardous conditions...
I Just Experince My First Time In The Snow With My Max And It Was An F$%k Experince. I Just Got The Car A Month A Half Ago. And I Pull Out Of A Spot Make A Left Turn And I Hit Some Black Ice And There I Went Into A Parked Car. I Swear To It It Just Happened Last Nite. And The Reason Was That My Gle Didnt Come With Traction. And The Fact That I Still Had My Perilli All Season Maybe Is Why. But Still The Car Spins Out No Matter What Just Drive Slow.

people need to learn to drive in the snow.....if you guys think traction control will keep you from sliding on black ice, or ABS will stop you on ice, or 4WD helps you corner better in the snow......

here's an idea....ask your parents how they drove in the snow with old-*** RWD station wagons back in the 70's and no ABS/TC/4WD or anything else....take a lesson from them.

unfortunately for you both, that's not my car...that's my boy Brendon's...mine's on the right.
heh it snowed about 2-3 inches in philly metro area last night, so this morning was my first experience in the snow with the max, and it went horrible
I disabled overdrive but still was frustrated
just a little slight push of the gas peddle and the wheels spun out (in literally about an inch of snow on the street)
i still love my max, though :-D

I had to drive my Maxima from Cincinnati to Buffalo, NY last Thursday. I got to experience fully how my car handles in the snow. It isn't bad considering it has a lot of power and relatively wide tires.
Only one time did I get really scared: I was picking up speed leaving Columbus in a four lane highway. I was pretty much alone with no cars in close proximity and I was going around 40 MPH driving on hard pack snow/ice. I got loose and the car started sliding back and forth fishtailing and I tried changing gears, braking and turning into the skid but nothing seemed to cut it. So I hit the brakes and the car ended up facing the opposite direction with an oncoming utility truck that tried braking, giving me enough time to turn around and get back on my way.
It was pretty intense and the closest call to hitting the wall or another car I've ever had. I was lucky there wasn't one next to me or I would have had some bended fenders to deal with.

the difference should be like getting out of a 4wd jeep and getting into a car. then again i dont know much about snow because i am from mississippi and my tires are bald about 2/3 of the year because i cannot afford new one. when i have money, it goes to snack cakes.........................................

the max is a great car no matter what. I thank god that my car didnt get any damage on the front from my little fender bender. it dont matter what kind of car/jeep you have black ice is no joke your rite and it will take your ride on a ride if you know wat i mean. this is for sure my Max will be in doors next time a snow storm comes in. I have lived in NYC and the snow here sux in the winter. But my other cars have never gave me such a bad riding experince in the snow. Both my chryslers (lhs & intrepid) went good in the snow and they took it very well. Even my buick did well in the snow with no traction control.
Traction control will help in a lot of events when it comes to the ice, snow, and rain. Trust me it does make a difference and the fact that all my cars have been front wheel only makes me feel a little safer in snow. RW sux in the snow I've driven RW cars in the snow and its bad real bad.
But next time out i'll have to take the boat(96' LHS) out instead of the MAx
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....
Irish: hit any of the slopes yet? Anything good out there? I want to head to Deep Creek this weekend and knock off the dust on my board! it's due for its yearly beating.
For the rest of y'all: I'll drive my max through anything. I admit, it sucks on snow, but if you know how to handle it, you can make it without a problem. I grew up in a snowbelt driving a POS S-10 with a rear tire that tended to lock up when I hit the breaks. If I could drive that in a blizzard, I can handle this car in the artic!

I havent had much problems with the Max in the snow. I've gone through blizzards down mountains. I'd recommend a good set of tires. If your on the highway in a bad bad snow storm, stay above 20 MPH and take the TCS off if you have it.

I noticed a distinct lack of the second requirment here in MD. One flake and these people lose it

y take TCS off??
Gotta go with Gsilk and if anyone has Potenzas and drives in the snow ditch them. I bought my max and was (I'm sorry) 2nd guessing my decision when it came to going skiing every weekend. I put 235/17 BFG traction T/As and it made a hudge difference. If you read reports for tires on FWD cars w/snow tires are not that much of a benifit vs cost. Other than that...figure it out... we drive cars with larger tires than the Camry and Accord and it weighs a decent amount, finess it it will do what you want. Oh yea, some of us dont have traction control its called a 5/6 speed. wish I had a 6 speed...
snow is ok for max, but not ice!!!

i agree with pearlmax, even with craptenzas, i was able to get around the bad blizzard we had the past few days by driving like a senior citizen. I need new tires though
Welcome to the org casper, its good to see another person from beantown.

It's also good to keep your tire pressure higher in the snow.
