I will be acquiring a 2000 SE very soon and was wondering if anyone figured out whether there really is a way to add the radio controls to the steering wheel? Has anyone been behind the radio on the 2001 yet to see what we're looking at? Any ideas?

I read the other threads in here, some saying it's impossible, too much work, or the dealer says no (We're listening to a dealer now? Hehehe) But I'd love to do it - number one biggest improvement on the 2001.

You'll have to buy the 2001 steering wheel and the wires that plug in the back of the radio, its kinda like a remote.
Is it worth it, NOPE!

I was trying to do the same thing. I asked the dealer and they said it could not be done. For some reason I don't believe them because there is a dummy panal on the side of the steering wheel were the controls would fit.

I have looked in that famous panel. There does seem to be a place to hang the controls but there is no sign of existing wiring. From what it looks like it's going to ba a huge PITA to get that wiring done. (open the steering column and possibly the dash) Not to mention the style of buttons are not the same between the 2000 and 2001. The 2000 cruise control buttons are kinda bulbous where the 2001 cruise and audio controls are flat.

Probably the easiest way to get it done is find a scrapped 2001 and rip everything apart, taking the steering, cable and radio. (I have seen no confirmation that the 2000 head unit has the remote-control plug-in in back.) By tearing it apart you will also lean what to do and not do when you tear apart your own car.
