oh no i havent installed the intake yet i just got it.
I have about 19500 miles on the car i know the 20000 service is coming up soon, maybe that may have something to do with it.
I am gonna call the dealer tho to see what they say.
I read in the manual that it may be an emission problem. Soo i cheked to see if the gas tank was on properly.

Same thing happened to me.
I took mine in and they replaced the cat converter... said it was malfunctioning.
Now I'm told that the program is prone to generate error codes of a cat converter malfuction when it's working fine. In this case, they'll do a simple computer program update.
In either case, take it to the dealer.

Bad Sensors
My service engine light came on in my 99 SE-L. After calling the dealer, they said to check to make sure the gas cap is tight. If air gets in the tank, this could be the problem. After the light stayed on, I took it to the dealer and it was a bad O2 Sensor. I have had two replace since in almost two years. Good Luck. Stefnee

Same Problem...
I have noticed the same problem...
However, it started after I went to a gas station to get gas. Used the CLIP to hold the gas flow at full, some reason, the gas overflowed, and ever since I have been getting the STEADY - Service Engine Soon light...
I read the manual, and it says, it is because of problem with the exhaust or just that the Fuel Cap is not closed properly...
Don't know.. I will wait for couple of days, and then I will take it to a Dealer...
Anyone had similar experience... Please HELP !!

The "service engine soon" light came on last Thursday on my 2k Maxima GXE with just over 30k miles. Opened a hood, replaced air filter, added some coolant. Light is still on. Made an appointment with Nissan service for next Wednesday (today). This morning started the car to go to service and the light is gone. Went to Nissan anyway. They told me that they'll charge me for reading the codes because there was no light. I just left. Next time I'll try to get it into service sooner.

ECU Re-program...
Here's my story.. Service Engine Soon light came on for no particular reason last month. Solid light.. meaning emissions problems.
I brought the car to the dealer and the ECU spit out a "bad cat" code..
Well.. some dealers would just replace the cat and send you on your way..
The problem is a misdiag of the emissions system by the ECU on some 2K Maxima's. The fix? A simple ECU update.
I had my ECU reprogrammed and the car hasn't thrown a code since. The throttle also responds much better (5 speed) and the gas milage may even be a bit better (though this could be the placebo affect).![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Ask your dealer to check for a ECU TSB.. and for anyone driving a 5 speed... the throttle is so much smoother at very low and very high (4000+) RPM.

But in my case, they replaced the cat converter cuz
it happened before they figured out anything about the
ecu misdiagnosis...
