make him run the 1/4 with them and report back, so all the 4th gens can STFU bout their cars being faster than 00-01 5spds. I bet you he will be in the high 15s stock. People need to realize 5th gens are faster, and thats it- friggn dyno charts say it all.

Two 14.7s and a few 14.8s and 14.9s. I hit 15.003@91 mph on my second time at the track with 156whp and 168wtq. If 5th gens really are faster - and I agree that they should be, considering the dyno numbers - then why aren't we seeing 5th gens hitting at least high 14s and possibly 14.6 or better?

dude I ran 14.7@96MPH in my STOCK 5th gen with 1500 miles on the odo, on crappppy Potenza tires, granted I got a good 60' 2.1s and 2.23s, if I got a set of slicks and launched it hard I would probably bring that thing down to 14.1 bone stock, with taking it to redline, I wasn't hard on the car back then like I am now, I would short shift at 6200RPM and still got that good of a time. DE-Ks are not torque monsters off the line, so it takes some time to get the car going, once ya get in the VIAS operating range 4th gens eat dust. DE-K stock on a 60MPH roll on vs 99 Max on the highway is a nice little challenge. I aint putting down the 4th gens, but people need to realize we have heavier cars and heavy wheels REALLY slow us down. Put that on a 4th gen and see if it will even run in the 15s.

ok listen guy i think we need to calm down here.. we all own maximas so lets not get into who has a faster one, ... SECONDLY i highly doubt ANY 00-01 can hit 14.1 STOCK i dont care how nice you are with shifting, sorry its the truth with slicks your ganna hit MID 14. and BTW the 4th gen and 5 gen 00-01 are kinda equal
Listen here newbie, I don't care bout 1/4 mile racing- but this topic comes up all the time when 4th gens try to talk smack. Problem is they use our VIAS manifolds to make power, make the 5th gen a little lighter-wheels and some ez weight reduction. 5spd 3.0Ls are just as fast if not faster than 3.5L automatics stock, so I wouldn't be sayn. Drag racing is not fun, its booring, its very hard on the clutch and this is why I preffer road racing where it shows the true ability of the cars suspension, brakes, and engine power. Who cares bout how fast I can cover the 1/4 mile, do you run the 1/4 mile on your way to work ? do you ever need to stop fast ? Funny how must drag cars have brakes that can't stop a Geo Metro sufficiently enough. I don't see many Chevelles around my race tracks- Road America, BlackHawk Farms, etc.... Thats cause they corner as well as a Baptist Church Bus, they stop as well as an Amtrak locomotive, and sure as hell aint going to be able to keep itself from overheating and melting down on the long stretches. If I only cared bout 1/4 I would have a big turbo kit on my car by now runing 10s, but I do everything one by one to complete a perfect package for my desired needs- reliability, stopping power, looks, enough power to run with bikes on the highway, and ability to corner better any other sedan.
As far as 0-60 and the 1/4 mile goes, you're underestimate the importance. Those two methods are a good tool to compare acceleration, at speeds that are relevant for daily driving.
That is what I am getting at. In stock form (right down to the tires; slicks and lighter wheels obviously don't count), there is a handicap. 00-01 VI's are even better than MEVI's (extra torque) but if you take the ensemble (heavier curb weight, heavier wheels), it's pretty much even.
As for the 99 vs 01; 95-96 are more of a challenge, the base weight is 2885 lbs for a GXE and they all have 15" wheels, no 16". I don't think 5th gens look good with 15" wheels so can understand why Nissan went for 16" and 17" but 5th gen, in bone stock form, don't have any clear advantage until well beyond legal speeds.
And don't take this as "smack talking". The fastest totally stock 5th gens are not getting better timeslips than the fastest stock 4th gens. Sure you'll be faster with lighter wheels, but then your car won't technically be stock.
