"Black Box" in 2002 Maxima SEs?

I read an article today on Event Data Recorders, or EDRs, or "Black Boxes" that record speed, lateral acceleration, etc. on your vehicle.

Does anyone know if the 2002 Maxima SEs have these? Apparantly the 6th Generation Maximas do...

I remember looking at a list of cars that have these "black boxes" & Nissans were not on the list. Correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

I've heard about them. I know they have them on some cars but I am not sure who has them but Mercedes has it for sure since it was around since 90's.

Some dealers are installing them at the request of lenders and insurance theives...i mean companies. They have to disclose this by law. If they do not, and you have one installed without your knowledge, and you ARE the owner, then whatever they have is worthless. Unless it was somewhere in the fine print.

Decent writeup here...but this is from canada. US law is a bit different.

EDRs (Event Data Recorders) record the following data:

Vehicle speed (five seconds before impact)
Engine speed (five seconds before impact)
Brake status (five seconds before impact)
Throttle position (five seconds before impact)
State of driver's seat belt switch (On/Off)
Passenger's airbag (On/Off)
IR Warning Lamp status (On/Off)
Time from vehicle impact to airbag deployment
Ignition cycle count at event time
Ignition cycle count at investigation
Maximum velocity for near-deployment event
Velocity vs. time for frontal airbag deployment event
Time from vehicle impact to time of maximum velocity
Time between near-deploy and deploy event (if within five seconds)

There is an aftermarket product you can get to plug into your ECU adapter interface to record such things. One idea was for teenage drivers, so parents could see how the child drove the car. Like I said, it was one idea, not one commonly used by this board.
