Speaker Buzzing, bad sound quality

I have a 2002 Maxima SE. The left speaker will cut out intermittently. It has a "buzzing" sound like the bass is turned up. This only happens some times. Nissan just installed a new stereo unit. This did not fix the problem. Any suggestions as I bring it in for the third time? This is NOT a Bose system which has a known problem. Thanks. . . . .

It sounds like the speaker is blown. You'll usually get that type of sound when the "spider" is ripped/torn. I can't see why Nissan would've changed the stereo for a sound that is only coming from one speaker??? Take it to a reputable stereo shop to get a diagnosis and options. Good luck!

Very odd that Nissan would think the problem is the stereo and not the speakers.

Possible Problems:

1. The Speaker is bad
2. The wires going to the speaker are getting a lot of interference (ie. other wires bunched togeather)

Solution:

Just change the speaker. They are crappy! They are 30watt Clarions that are

FYI they are 6.5" speakers for all the doors.

Can you install aftermarket 6.5" speakers? What about an amp withe the stock Bose stereo?

You can put in aftermarket 6.5" speakers but they will not fit exactly. You will need to make a spacer template out of 1/4" plywood for each speaker. You can trace the old speaker housing onto the plywood. The spacer template serves 2 purposes: it lets you use the stock screw holes and also sets the speaker out from the door metal so the magnet will not touch the window when you roll it down. It takes a little time but it's well worth it to replace the crap stock paper speakers.

Thanks. Any speaker recommendations that work well with the stock Bose head unit and optionally a recommendation for an amp, will be appreciated.

You said in the first post that you don't have the BOSE system right? But then in your last post, you asked if you can install an amp and speakers with the BOSE? So which one is it??? Well, if you don't have the Bose system, then it'll be no problem to hook up a/m 6.5" speakers in the doors, with or without an amp. I have A/D/S 6.5" coax mounted separates in my front doors, running off a Xtant 4.4 amp. I also, do not have the Bose system in my Max. So, to answer your questions, you can mount 6.5's and yes you can run amps.

Thanks BRAN808, but I think you confused my post with someone else. I DO have a BOSE system and I was looking for recommendations for speakers and amps that will run well with the stock BOSE system.

As far as I know, you must replace Bose equipment with Bose equipment. I've heard that Bose speakers operate at 1/2 ohm resistance and I don't know of any popular audio company that makes speakers or amps for Bose head units. You'll have to get a response from a Bose owner to get more info. Try the audio section.

Oops, sorry........my bad! To answer your question, I believe that you must replace all equipment if you want to run an amplifier. A lot of the Bose stuff are amplified at the speaker, so all the speakers and H/U need to be replaced. I could be wrong though.

could be a blown speaker.....but if it's just a hum, it's most likely a crappy ground connection....check all your wires

I just cut the crappy stock speakers out of the plastic mounting housing - cut the paper and the plastic "ribs" that made the speaker "basket". The opening was large enough I could fit Polk 6.5", after drilling 3 mounting holes. Alt. I think Crutchfield gives you these spacers if you buy from them.

Aftermarket stereo equipment will not work with a Bose H/U. Besides, Bose sux anyway. You will be much happier when you replace it.
