i got em in, well a mechanic did. I tried first, and couldn't get the ring bushings pressed in. Taking the old bushings out of the rings, and installing the pieces that attach the shifter to the car is no problem. Hardest part was to get the piece in under the hood. I spent hours trying to push it in with pliars. I wouldn't say i'm e xactly weak, but for what i was trying to do for sucha long time, i swere the mechanic spent just a momment pressing these things in with his hands. The guy didnt even break a sweat.

I honestly recommend working on it with someone that has some ridiculous hand strength, and that is usually a guy who does this stuff all the time. Nothing was hard, but hey i wouldn't knock myself out over that again, it was a major PITA.

Oh yea one other thing, polos pictures (they are linked in a similar thread i asked this question) can guide you. If you areunsure of the location of the 2 big fatter bushings, one goes under the hood, where the STS goes if you did that, in the middle of the ring that slides over the pivot on the tranny for shifting, and one inside the shifter itself, in the ring that attaches to the stick's up and down lever. The other ones, go where the shifter attaches to the car, up top, and under neath, the rubber washer goes underneath.

The installation is straightforward although I was d@mn confused at first, its easier once youve become familiarized with the layout of the shifter mechanism and the cables\rods attached to the transmission.

There are only two areas that you need to focus on, that is the shifter and base, and the cable which attachment to the transmission located in the engine bay.

Once you've removed the center console, shift boot, ash tray ect. you'll find an exposed shifter and base. At the four corners of this white base, you'll find that they are screwed in and are held with rubber bushings. In addition there are washers at all four of these corners which you must save when you insert the new polyeurethane bushings. PoLo has a picture diagram which, although drawn, helps greatly in directing you on how to place the bushings into their respective places.

That basically takes care of the smaller bushings, leaving the two larger and very troublesome bushings left. Once you've pressed out the old one, attached to basically a ring at the end of a rod, you'll find that getting the new bushing in will be a major PITA. However, with an extra set of hands it shouldn't be too bad. You'll notice how just ONE side of the round bushing will fit into that ring, which the other half protruding out. As best as you can, hold in the one half with your fingers and with another person using a plyers (or anything similar) have that person force the exposed end in by squeezing the bushing into the ring. With enough pressure it'll pop right in. Repeat with the ring in the engine (which you'll have to remove the air box in order to access).

You'll definitely like the results.

I know that Polo review them and he said that they increase shifting precision and confidence. Ill will get mine tomorrow so Ill post once I get them installed. Also if you look at the bushing that are attached to the shifter cable, they are really soft and plyable. The ES ones are supposed to be alot stiffer which will make the shifting stiffer. If you have a HP STS(like I do) it is going to kick a$$.

Well I finally got the bushing and installed them today. All I have to say is damn. The bushings makes shift so much more solid. I would definately say that this is a must for any 6 speed especially with the HP STS. Another thing is that the oem bushing under the hood was cracked and broken. The oem ones are made like **** and are not solid like the ES ones. Two thumbs up on this product.

there is a write up on #3 that NoMotive wrote and also if you go to the Group Deal section and click on the gd that Cattman performance is having on the ES bushings there is more directions with a link that Polo put up. The installation is not easy but it is well worth it. There are no extra vibrations at all and I paid $22 for them shipped.
Here is the GD thread:

And here is the picture installation:

k put mine in, worst part of the install was the 4 bushings for the shifter assembly, was kind of a pain, the two big bushings went in pretty easy thanks to a big screwdriver.

along with the STS i put in awhile back it works like a 100% gated shifter, crisp and medium throws

very very happy!!!

i dont even have those bushing on the shifter but i do have the ones in the engine bay. I removed them when I was doing the swap so the whole shifter assembly does not move at all. It is very stiff and does not wable anywhere and my car shifts pretty good also.
