It was not a personal attack on you. You don't know filtor1's background information on this subject, but he does drive a professional truck for a living. He is qualified to make a general statement about the attitudes that are common with people who drive larger vehicles.

People with max get into accident just as well as people who owns SUV,
pickup truck, Semi's and anyother vehicles.
Very true. However, the logic that you failed to see is that the damage caused in an accident by a SUV, truck, or Semi is usually larger-scaled than that caused by a Maxima. It's not always the case, but generally it is the case. Filtor1 was stating that if someone is allowed to drive a 5000+ lbs vehicle, they should be required to have additional training regarding the differences between driving a 3400 lb car and a 5000+ SUV/truck.

That statement you just made is idiotic.
You are being warned... personal attacks (whether directly or indirectly) will not be tolderated. If it is your opinion that the statement he made is idiotic, please keep it to yourself.

One big tree finally stopped them while they were upside down. The car fell a full 10 feet onto it's roof. Believe it or not, the roof didn't collaspe more than an inch! One of the guys had a broken hip, another broken ribs and a bruised lung and my brother had 156 stitches in his face (the cut missed his jugular by 1/8"!). Hard to beleive it, but all are fine now. Any other car and they all would have been dead!
An accident i was in 3 years ago missed my jugular by about that much... i hope hes fine and his face didnt suffer.. i got like 50 or so stiches...

wow man. That looks like it was bad. Glad to see that you doing well. I know how it is. My 98 was totalled and rolled. Things do get better. Did they cut the top off the max though. In one of the pictures the back left main roof support is chopped in half. Did you use the "jaws of life?" good luck with a speedy recovery. Stay in the nissan family!

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and thoughts. I had composed a reply earlier, but Mozilla crashed and ate it.

A few replies to some questions that have been posted...I still have some numbness and weakness in my right side, along with the loss of some dexterity in my right hand. If this turns out to be permanent, I caught a small break in that I'm left-handed. I go back to the doctor on the 19th, until then I'm under orders to rest and do activity as tolerated. I can walk with the assistance of a cane, improved from needing a walker when I first came home from the hospital.

I have already retained an attorney that is a college buddy of one of my best friends from childhood. A direct quote from him: "Let's get you PAID." My roommate's cousin is a district attorney for Tuscaloosa, AL, and after being told the story and seeing the pics, he said my case is a slam dunk, and the question isn't if I'll get money, but how much. My attitude is like Tom from 'Office Space'...I'm going to start working on my 'Jump to Conclusions' mat.

I have already heard from State Farm (my insurance) who's told me they totaled the Maxima (big shock). I'll get details on the payoff on Monday.

The Maxima is a total loss, since the EMT's turned it into a convertible to get me out. It had an automatic tranny, and the fog lights weren't salvageable. Sorry, guys.

Unbelievable. Thank God above you are alright! I just gained new respect for my Maxima.

Drivers should have to complete additional training to drive SUV's. The number of people that never go offroad in an SUV is very high. I hate it when you see one of the gas guzzlers chugging down the road with one lone person in it. And they are a traffic fatality waiting to happen! They are also part of the reason gas prices are averaging higher every few years.

its not just SUV drivers that cause the accidents...their size does play into the damage involved in the accident, but you shouldnt need extra training to drive one! btw, im REALLY sorry about your max and your injury! i hope you get better soon, and get a new max...(5th gen of course)
