Hung Throttle
#1
I was reading the lastest road and track (May 2001/ pg. 149) on the way back from New York and noticed an article about this. The article was for the contour and cougar cars but I am thinking it might be an easy fix for us as well.
The trick is to partially block the auxiliary intack passage leading to the bypass valve. They go on to say that it is the best 20 cents a 2.5 liter duratec owner can spend.
Anyways....they do not say what they blocked it with but I am going to go onto the contour forum to see if anybody knows anything else about this.

Why not
I know it is not the same engine as ours...but if haven't figured out yet....all engines work the same in some form or another. The hung throttle is what causes the bucking sensation in five speeds....and makes cruising at low speeds intolerable. I know that our fix will vary a little....but maybe we can come up with a fix that is similar. Also, if Road & Track found this story interesting enough for its readers....maybe they will like our story better!

HMMM
What is kevS fix for the problem. I am aware of the TSB that changes the ECU but I think this might be an easier fix without the hassle at the dealership and the chance that they are messing with the way my car accelerates.

I had a Contour and did this fix on it. Its been a while, but as I remember it involves buying a $0.10 copper pipe end (for 1/4" piping) and drilling a hole in it (I tried various diameters, 5/32" worked best) and inserting it into the rebreather tube. It did drop the throttle hang down more rapidly, which is all it will do. I don't think it will do anything for the "bucking" motion, all it does is block off the excess air that keeps the rpms up after the throttle is closed. Ford does this to keep excess hydrocarbons from being emitted when throttle is closed.
