2001 SE Alternator and Belts

2001 SE Alternator and Belts
Took my Max in for an oil change (at a dealer) on the weekend and asked them to look at a squealing sound I have at idle. I have less than 60000 Kms (37500 miles) on the car.
I was told that the drive belts and pulleys need replacing, so I had them do it. After that, they told me there's a squeal coming from the alternator.
Has anyone had to change their belts and/or alternator at such low mileage?

I am about to have to replace my alternator but I have 82,000 miles and have been powering a 2400 watt amp for some time now.
The dealer probably just took you and your wallet for a ride.

my alternator died just before 50k. no big stereo or anything pulling any more power than stock required. i replaced my belts when i did the udp so the old ones were still good and the shorter belts went in around 30k.

Did they replace the belt too? It could be your belt tension is off. Make sure the belt is centerred on the pulleys and there are no cracks on the belt. It's probably something to do with the belt. Just get in there and isolate where exactly the sound is coming from. With a little knowledge, you won't get taken for a ride by any mechanic.
