Data Dots

I finally got Data Dots Recall done this weekend, whats the difference between the Anti Theft Kit installation or just standard data dots recall?

Dealer told me they reinstalled brackets and hard bolted them to the frame, but i was under the impression they install a lock on the hood latch as well as theft prone screws?

Is this extra? What am i missing here?

?? lock on the latch? doesnt come with it, and i dont think they make em either for the max... when i looked up the anti theft kit online a while ago before the recall because i knew people would be stealin em left n right here in NY it doesnt have a lack lock for the hood. data dots just bolts to the body of the car and another spot where the brackets are. If they really want the lights, they are gonna get the lights, no ifs about it. i say glue the headlamp onto the car! haha no...

the data dots is really a spray they put on your headlights to 'track' it by authorities just in case they find stolen parts. I believe it is also put on the ballast.

Data Dots recall and the theft kit available from Courtesy Nissan are two completely different things. The theft kit is basically a hood lock reinforcement and door lock reinforcement. Completely useless as thieves don't even have to open anything to take the lights. The Data Dots recall bolts the lights to the frame and relocates the ballasts so if the lights are pried out, they won't have the ballasts.

You cannot remove the headlight without unbolting it from the frame...which is a task...I'm in the middle of removing the headlight from my car to install the DDE's...trust me...a hood latch is nothing compared to what this bracket is...it took me about 2 hours just to reach the bolts that attach it to the frame...thieves will still do alot of damage as we have seen though but that will happen with or without the latch on the hood.

from what i have read, datadots is where they put a chip on or in your headlights so that if they're ever recovered they can be traced back to your car and also so that body shops don't buy stolen lights. i could be wrong.

also, i was looking into getting a chain put in so that my hood wouldnt open without a key but was told that since the hood is not sheet metal like it is on the old cars it wouldn't work since any thief could just rip it right off with enough force.

Is there any serious threat of theft in plainview ? I thought plainview was clean.

Besides yonkers what are other hot spots of Theft in westchester?

I like your chain idea, but they will just damage the car / hood. I was thinking about a alarm system with a camera attachment to take pictures.

Also its sad police officers do not take finger prints for car thefts.

If the hood is not made of sheet metal, what is it made of? I thought datadots is not just "a chip". Instead, they spray numerous micro chips on your headlights and ballast which contain vehicle identification information.

Since installation of the datadots and anti-theft brackets, I believe the theft of HIDs in the tri-state area has decreased substantially. The scumbag thieves have finally realized it does not pay trying to steal 02-03 Max HIDs.

plainview is safe it's the other areas that arent i had someone almost steal my lights 100 feet away from the macy's entrance in roosevelt field mall. i've considered doing what VW passats have. their siren horn is somewhere in the trunk area so you can't disconnect it so easily. i've also thought of hooking up a backup horn with a 2nd power supply. but what i've realized is that if they want to take your headlights they will so it's not worth all this money. the only thing that might be worth it but would be kinda steep is one of those pager alarms that calls you if your car alarm goes off.

i wouldnt do the camera thing cuz if the lowlives do see it they'll probably want to break it along with a bunch of other stuff because it would **** them off.

ok i'm rambling now so i'll stop...

i don't remember if it was metal or what. but our hoods arent like the ones on the old cars. if someone pulled hard enough the hood chain would come right off. you may be right about the datadots dude i'm just stating what i heard. and yeah the theft did decline but the fact still remains if the thief is determined they will take your lights. it just might take a min longer for them to do it.

Can the theft kit be purchased or do you have to go to dealer to get it installed? Someone mentioned that its a recall too, will nissan put it on my car even if it has a reconstructed title? thanks

Dude, I'm sorry, but 2 hours? Seriously? I don't know how you did it but I just installed my DDEs and that seems a little long. I won't go into the detail here, b/c I think it might upset some orgers, but I DO have the DataDot recall and it's just the big black bracket that mounts to the bottom of the headlight. This is what the bracket looks like:

And there's that other screw near the inside of the fender area. It's definitely a pain, and I wouldn't want to do it again, but it's not that bad.
