I would give a ******** for 457.2 to a tank I have not sniffed 300 hundred miles to a tank ever from my maxima. And there is not a better maintained Maxima on the org than my own.

yea, usualy fill up a little after 400, just kept forgetting, the car has close to 80k mi, best mpg ever was on a trip back up from Fla, it was pouring real bad almost the whole way up so i set cruise controll to 60 mph for a whole tank 28mpg, but i stil was getting 24mpg on the way down there and the majority of that ride was 100mph +

What are you talking about.. 1100 mile road trip.. filled up 3 times and still have 3/4 of a tank... 400 miles to the tank.. 425 pushing it.. But 457 is nice!! Everytime i go to the gas station i check gallons.. most i ever put in was 15.4.. maybe 457 is reachable.. but i dont think i want to really find out!

You were driving 100+ on I-95, er, the majority of I-95? You'd be lucky to get a ticket @that.

I am going to have to vote BS on that one.

I second his ride, i made it from richmond to mile 150 in NC never dipping below 130, so it's possible. that was a 15:06 run from melbourne to cheshire. you just need to time it right.

It's not necessarily the maintenance, it's the driving style. I can watch my mpg go WAY down once my right foot starts to get itchy! Although, I did get 26.2 mpg on my way back to NH from Dallas when I bought the car...never slower than 85.

457.2 Miles on an 18.5 gallon tank means he got about ~24.71 miles per gallon. That doesnt seem too off.

150 miles/25mpg = 6 gallons x $2.00/gallon = $12
You'd give up your ******** for ~$12?

That's quite an assertion that your Max the best maintained Max on the .org...

My driving style is a mix of conservative and spirited driving, and I clock a lot of in-town miles as well as highway miles, so my fuel economy isn't as good as what you guys are quoting from your long highway trips, but I did see an average increase of about 1mpg after my last oil change. I went from whatever cheap dinosaur oil the used car dealer picked to Mobil 1 Supersyn 5w30. Hopefully when I buy and install my new intake, that will improve fuel economy just a little bit more.

I'm sitting between classes, reading the org on my laptop and wishing that I had eaten something before leaving my apartment. I would give my left nut for a sandwich right now.

I've gotten between 360-380 on a drive between DC and and Detroit... was driving in 6th gear mostly and at around 80 mph average...

It seems like there's a lot of variation among us when it comes to fuel economy. I'm one of the poor bastards who has crappy fuel economy, but that's probably because I do a lot of in-town driving, and I don't always succeed at driving conservatively (*cough* leadfoot *cough*).

Back when I used to commute to work in my Maxima, I noted MUCH better fuel efficiency on the highway than I ever see in town. Driving with the flow of traffic, I was hovering around 30mpg. Now I'm hovering around 20mpg. It's sad to say so, but I was really pleased with myself when my average mpg jumped up to 21 after I switched to Mobil 1 Supersyn.

But to complete the story... my city driving only gets me around 280-300 a tank... so I'd say 310 is okay...

All I was getting at was that maintnance is not the issue with my Max as far as gas mileage. Hell it might just be the best maintained as far as I know. I am a bit of a obsesive compulsive. Mobil 1 syn motor oil every three months. Mobil 1 ATF syn every 20,000. Coolant flush every 20,000. Tire pressure checked weekly along with rotation at 5,000. Both belts were changed at 40,000. Throttle body & Air filter cleaned along with a bottle of BG44K fuel injector cleaner along with engine detail once a year or at 10,000 miles which ever comes first. Spark Plugs & PCV Valve changed at 40,000. As far as paint cleaning, clay bar, polishing, waxing , & interior steaming at least 4 or 5 times a year. And I do all the work myself. With the exception of the belts. When your married with children & your wife is nagging you you look for any reason what so ever to go into the garage just to get a little quiet time. 2000 Maxima SE & I just turned 50,000 miles.

I place more value on my nutz than any pangs of hunger.

Except for mine. I've now had several 500 mile tanks on my '03 GLE (which is an auto). Maximum MPG is slightly over 31 (and no, not using the very off trip computer). I regularly get 350+ on in town driving, and I drive agressive.

I don't know about you guys, but do you really think letting your gas get so low is a good idea? I don't want any sediment crap built up at the bottom of my tank to get sucked through and maybe mess up the filter.

I flush out my tank every year. It's part of my yearly routine for all vehicles I own...

I never let it get that low anymore. Rarely do I even get to 1/4 tank. I do lots of 1.5-3 hour trips, so I'm always filling up when I have just under 1/2 a tank. Mileage is dropping now anyway because of damned winter gas.

To clairify this stament, the 100+ mph was in the southern states from a little into virgina onward. the sun had just come up providing the perfect time and place. anytime i am on a highway in the daytime w/o alot of cars = 100mph+.

I dont have a radar detector, so i always try to use the buddy system, since most of time you can find another car that will speed with you, on that particular drive it was me a nd ajeep grand cherokee through virginia and most of No.carolina, then i hung w/ a escalde and 325i towards the bottom so.carolina into fla.
