2002 Maxima -- Clicking

Someone try this. With the car running (engine on) press the brake pedal just until the brake lights light up....then let up until they turn off. Mine clicks inside the dash as they turn on and off. Don't recall hearing that before...

It does not make the noise when the car is off.

i think it might be the shift lock mechanism? it allows you to move the **** out of park when the brake pedal is depressed...just a guess.

Yup. And if that's the biggest quirk my 02 has, then I'm OK with it.

Yup, thats it. Went down and put my hand on the gear shift surround and it vibrates when the click happens. Is this something I can tighten? What is it under the shifter that makes the click noise?

So, reading around a little bit. The A/T Shift Lock System is only supposed to operate while the car is in Park. Mine is doing this while in ANY gear.

Wonder if this will work on our cars?
