About 2 weeks ago, we were driving on the interstate. We'd been driving for an hour. We had it on cruise doing about 70. Suddenly, the RPMs surged, the car downshifted, maybe to 3, even 2nd. We made a pit stop, I checked the transmission fluid. No problem. Got back out on the highway, and it did it twice more. There was not way to turn around and so we kep going. We were on our way to Minneapolis. The problem did not resurface, and we kept driving to our destination, another 4 hours or so. Three days later, we'd been driving for maybe four hours or five hours, and the car starts surging again. We got home okay, largely because we were in a snowstorm and coudl only do about 20 mph. But, last week we were ourt again. After an hour of driving the RPM start to "dance" again, downshifting to 3, may be 2nd, then back to 4th. This continued intermittently. We got to our destination. On the return home, we had no problme for the first hour, and then it started all over again. Any one have any advise? This problem cannot be left. This car's my dream car, my baby.

Fuel filter? Hmmm. Interesting. Guess I'll find out on Friday when i take it in my my Nissan dealer.

 

It was the first few times. We tried driving it without cruise on, and the problem continued to present itself.

 

Does the car feel like it loses any power before the surges?

 

no it is so puzzling...we are just clipping along, smooth as could be, and up go the revs, then it upshifts back in to overdrive.
We turned off the over drivre, contiuned in 3rd, only to experience it downshift to 2dn, and go back up to 3rd.
