It could be two things:

1.- A coin. if this is the case you will need a new motor becuase that motor is burned.

2.- The joystick the wires inside it can be loose. It happend to me and is not hard to fixed....

Good luck....

Bringing it in??? TO NISSAN ..... They will charge you a lot of money like always.

How do you fix the joystick problem? Mine goes forward and back just fine, it just won't go up or down on occasion...

Well, in my case was pretty simple BC my seat didn't move forward and back, so I took it apart and one wire was loose.... BUt someone told me to replace the joystick just in case , from the junkyard $5 (2joysticks)

Hit the switch with the side of your fist a couple of times. Works for me...

Here's the TSB # - 02-001C (Interior - Driver's Seat Won't Move Forward/Backward).

lol - the only problem is that I'd probably just bust it off...
I'll have to try it tonight, and see if I can get underneath and play with the wires.

Is the motor for the '01 the same as the '00? If so, I have a '00 power driver seat (probably not the right place for this, but it does save on browsing time)
