Need Good Advice

I have a problem with my 2000 gxe.It starts and idles a little rough, but really stumbles badly during acceleration, shaking and reluctant to accelerate without "feathering" the gas pedal. It feels like a fuel delivery problem of some sort.Changed plugs.I noticed an advisory on the various parts companies' web sites. The advisory said to replace the fuel pressure regulator before replacing the fuel pump...........I'm no mechanic but I've got a Haynes....just gotta figure out where to begin...Anyone had this problem with their Max?????Any good advice would be appreciated........Thanx

Mass air flow sensor or if it hesitates like misfiring, then your coils are bad

It would be the mass air flow (MAF) sensor if you were limited to about 3500 RPM and the car would die frequently. It would be a bad ignition coil(s) if you experiencing any knocking. If you don't have either of those then I am willing to bet you have clogged or semi-clogged fuel injectors. Has the car been sitting for any length of time? What is the mileage? How has the maintenance been? What climate does the car experience? What grade of gas do you put in it?

Car doen't die.No knocking.Used every day.60k miles. No maint other than plugs and fluids,brakes,filters,tires.........Wife usually gets midgrade gas but I have caught her getting gas at Sam's.........Would a dirty filter on the fuel pump cause this?????Anyway to check an injector other than replacement???????

Try using a fuel system cleaner first. I suggest CD2, or the STP. I'm sure other people have some brands they prefer as well. If that doesn't do it, then start checking the fuel system.

I may be new here, but trust me! Do not purchase any gas from Sam's. I've had nothing but problems with their gas in the past. I went on the cheapo binge after Sam's began offering gas where I live and began experiencing problems very similar to yours with my Diamante. I'm not saying that's the problem, but I'm rather making a general comment about the quality of their gas. Org members be warned. ) Good luck to ya!

I used a fuel system cleaner a couple of times, then read of possible damage to the FI by using cleaners........seemed strange that something designed to clean would do harm....?????Experienced a brief cure and car seemed to run well when we took it on a trip.Got back home and all of a sudden the tbl is back. It's almost like something is floating around in the tank and when it gets near the fuel intake she starts gaggin.....
