Reading ECU codes on 2000 Max?

What's the procedure to read ECU codes on a 2000 Max? I found the procedure for 2002+ by doing a search in FAQ, tried it but didn't work, am I doing it wrong or is it just different?

Thanks!

Regards,
Chris

you have to have an obd 2 diagnostic tester. some parts store will pull the codes for free depending on your area. autozone does it around me. you could pay a shop/dealer to pull them as well or look at purchasing your own reader.

if you found the procedure for the 2002 you would have found that it is the same as the 2000-2001's. It can only be read with a obd-II diagnostic tool which has a port located near your left knee under the steering wheel

Larrio, according to the members' posts I found here, there is a procedure to read ECU codes on 2002+ models using throttle inputs with the car turned off, unless this is some sort of joke designed to get nerds like me fooling around with their throttle hoping to get the dashboard to respond, then I fell in the trap! Anyway, I was advised to disconnect the battery cable for a few hours to reset the ECU, did just that and SES never returned on startup and 20 minute drive. The car hadn't run for a long stretch in about 2 weeks, no proper warm up, combination of short commutes and cold weather may have affected the cat's performance, leading the ECU to believe the anti-pollution system isn't functioning properly, triggering SES.

For now, knock on wood, looks like I'm ok! Being forced to the dealer is my worst nightmare..

Thanks for your replies guys!

Regards,
Chris
