What the hell?!

OK, had my ses light turn on. Went to autozone with ob2 reader, found out it was an o2 sensor (goin back later to get exact code) of the 4 that my car contains. went to nissan, they told me they only replace o2 sensors in pairs and that i need reprograming of something on my ecu. well sounded kinda skimmpy but then he came back with the $quote. $600!!!.... I laughed at him, cracked a 180, and left out the door . Please tell me there is another solution to this problem. I go to college full time and no way have over a half of a grand to fix A SENSOR! I know I can get a repair shop to do it for cheap, but im confused about this ecu reprogram issue. please help.. thanks

What was the code that you pulled at Autozone?

Find out the exact code and that will tell you which O2 is bad... Then call Dave Burnette the parts guy and order the sensor (less than $100). Depending on which sensor it is, you may need to jack the car up and get at it... they are a snap to replace.

how many miles do you have? if youre around 35,000 then chances are the light doesn't mean anything and it'll go away eventually.

i have 86,300 miles and it comes and goes, based on if the exhaust cap is open or closed. the O2 sensor doesnt like the free flow exhaust, but the engine sure does MHUAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

it comes and goes. it is a 2000 gxe. like it will be on 2 days in a row, then i will turn the car on one day and its off, then a few hours later it comes back on. If yours comes and goes you should think aobout fixing it, or try. my manual of my car said that the car goes into some kinda of safe mode and we shouldnt go fast n other things. idk, its what it said, check yours too.; it should say it. i have 42,964 miles, nothing significant.

Yea thats what they wanted me to pay too. Do you know what that reprograming thing was? (dealership said they had to reprogram something with the install of my $999,999,999.99 o2 sensor)

Hind, your car wont go into safe mode unless something is really wrong. And if it does, you will know instantly. I bet you its a ghost code. I get those randomly, especially when it starts getting cold out.
