Parking Lights Will Not Cut Off!!!help Please

I have a 2000 maxima gle w/auto lights and the other day i got out and noticed the parking lights were still on. Usually when you turn the car off in auto mode the lights stay on until you open the door then ALL lights cut off. now when i get out the car the parking lights stay on and just the headlights go off even when i manually turn the lights OFF the parking lights stay on. To get the parking lights off i have to disconnect the battery until i find out what the problem is.

All you Maxima experts any suggestions? I have the factory manual on cd to no avail. It doesnt have this issue in it.

??? when i get out, my lights stay on for about 45 seconds...all of them...why cant you just turn the lights to the "off" position?? instead of un-plugging the battery?

Thats the problem the parking lights WILL NOT cut off even when I try to turn the lights off by the lever. Disconnecting the battery is a temp fix until I find out what is wrong. the car has been parked for a couple of dayz

oh, well have you tried not switching it to auto in the first place? (like turning your lights to "on" whenever you need them) then just turning them straight off before you turn the car off? because sometimes i do this, just so that my lights dont stay on for that 45 seconds....

I know the solution to this..

Please check the door pin on the drivers side and make sure it is not corroded..

The problem with the AUTO headlights is that it requires the door pin switch to open then close therefore indicating that the you have left the car, and then afterwards the SECU will shut downt he ligths.

A malfunctioning pin switch will cuase your lights to stay on.

How do i know this?

When i installed my compustar remotestarter alarm, after the car shuts down, it would not turn of the lights. I had the installer wire a delayed relay to simulate the door opening and closing.

in reply to mini rx7:
I thought it was the door pin at first but when i turn the car off the lights stay on then as soon as the door is opened the HEADLIGHTS go off, the PARKING LIGHTS stay on and i get the warning chime letting me know the lights are on. If the door pin was bad or corroded the car would not give a reaction to the door being opened
