Hey guys I was out cruising around tonight and decided to practice a few brake/torque starts and noticed something strange. I could only get the rpms up to 2500 even with the O/D disengaged. Is this normal not to be able to rev it any higher and have any of yall experienced this situation. I thought that I've read where some of yall are telling others on the board to brake/torque the car to about 3k rpms, however I wasn't able to get the rpms up this high. I did get a really good launch with some wheel spin but nothing excessive. Anyway I figure if had wheel spin by brake/torquing it to 2200-2500 rpm that it would only be more pronounced if I were able to rev it up to 3k rpms. I'm going to be installing the Level 10 torque converter pretty soon and this will increase my stall speed to 3000 rpms in which case I won't have to brake/torque the car to 3000 rpms. My power band really kicks in right at 3K so I'm hoping to see a dramatic improvement in my launches.

Later,
Diederik

I don't believe you can get your stall speed that high without a high stall TC. Our TC's have a lower stall speed... somewhere in the low 2K's I think.

Instead of getting the TC from Level 10, get it from ProTorque. A NorCal member was indirectly informed that Level 10 uses ProTorque TC's. http://www.protorque.com

Instead of brake torquing, have you tried flashing the TC? You won't get higher rpm's since that is governed by the stall speed, but it is more effective and puts less wear on the TC.

yeah protorque distributes the TC that are the same as level 10 but, these are not build for the mods that you have on ur car..... level 10 builds the TC to mods that are done to your car whic will give u a better out put and protorque claims no power gains while level 10 claims that since it is 20 lbs lighter than stock it will put a good bunch of horses going to the wheels depending on the car and the mods. so i my self am going to get the level 10 only b/c they sound like they know what they r talking about instead of distributing the TC they do it for your car so it is likely that no 2 TCs will be the exact same unless you have the same mods....... call each one of them and get better info from each like i did...... it was like talking to two different people someone who knows what they r talkin about (level 10) and a distributor (protorque)..... your call

If you have a better torque converter, you'll definitely will see some added hp's. The hp's will no magically appear... it's just that the new TC will transfer the torque more efficiently, thus giving you the idea that you've "gained" hp.

20 lbs. lighter than stock? I don't think so, unless they started taking out stuff in the TC. I've done the ProTorque TC swap with some members of this forum and can say that it does feel different afterwards. The TC weighs about 30 lbs... so Level 10 is saying theirs will weigh 10 lbs? Hmmmmmmmm........ iiiiiiiiiinteresting.

Forgot to mention

The stock TC doesn't weight 50 lbs.

i think it's good enough if u keep it at 1500-2000 rpm a few sec b4 u floor it as u let go of the brake and that should give u a good peel out.

how can you people do brake torque? The RE92 came with the max are ****s. They are ****ing slippery even on asphalt. Accelerating at 1000rpm will cause major wheel spin on my car.

I don't see how it oculd be done.

I mean in Neutral you should be able to rev it up to almost Redline. But with the brakes on, and revving it, that is pretty much the limit.

Brake starts are really not necessary on the new Maximas. I mean if I floor my car, i will 95% of the time do a wheel spin.

That's around the same stall speed as the ProTorque TC.
