2k2 maxima SE, 6 spd.
WAi the way to go? (money vs. performance)
what about the ziptie-intake... (you just ziptie a K&N filter in , and leave the lid off) bad for your car?

sorry for the newbie post.

IMO, just go with what ya think looks best, sounds best, and feels best.... this is a neverending debate....

I have a Berk and I think its the best one out there, esp cuz its makes my car sound like a muscle car and the butt dyno picks up a gain of .500 hp....

I have a K&N filter with a PAB - ported air box - (3) 2 inch holes drilled in the front of the airbox. Sounds very cool when I stand on it, plus it retains the stock look, when and if, a Nissan mechanic looks at it.

You won't when you go in for a problem with your injectors, cat, etc, or any sensor between the intake and exhaust and they say "sorry, the aftermarket intake caused the car to run rich which caused the damage to that part so it's not covered under warranty."

...... unless your warranty is already up.

I have an Injen and I'm pretty happy with it. Considering I drive mostly low end since I got an automatic, and yes I kno I kno, automatics sucked, whatever, I lived in the city with mostly traffic. So I need more low end power gain than high end that a lot of WAI provides, some of my friends said they have lost low end with WAIs while a lot of org members said they have not. But I'm just sayin what I have, I like it, sounds decent combined with my catback. Looks pretty good under the hood too. I think its up to you what you like. Read up like I did, did a lot of research, there's a lot more threads about it in the org. Just read and you'll find a lot, might take a week or so, but you'll figure it out LoL

I just had my Place Racing CAI installed, and it is incredible. Very noticable power increase!! Plus the engine roars like a V8 at WOT!! Cold air will always give you better performance compared to warm/hot air. So, go for the CAI intake!!

If you can still find a Place Racing CAI, they are pretty nice. Place Racing has stopped making them, though. I remember some really nice deals from companies that were trying to get rid of their last PR CAIs.

Theoretically, turbo_gg is right. Colder, more dense air should always be better. That doesn't mean that you'll enjoy driving your car more with a CAI than you would with a WAI, though. There was a thread posted a while back where an Org member had his car dyno tested with the stock intake, a WAI, and a CAI, and he got the best results from a WAI.

Also remember that not all intakes labeled as CAIs are created equal. Org members sometimes call the PR CAI the only "true" CAI for our cars. Many people have the Injen CAI, but it catches a lot of criticism for being a long WAI instead of a CAI. That doesn't mean it's a bad intake. It just means that it doesn't get its air from as cool a source as the Place Racing CAI (which requires a small hole to be cut in the fender area).

The intake debate will never end, because everybody wants to believe that his intake is the best one. If you buy a WAI, you will not be disappointed. Is it the best intake? I don't know. What I DO know is that I'm going to get a WAI, and so have a lot of other Org members.

the wai peaks are all theoretical since theyre on the dyno with the hood up and a fan blowing air all over the engine. a cai doesnt benefit from this whatsoever
