Failed Inspection... Broken Exhaust

I can't believe this im so pissed. I take my car in to get new plugs and coils, and they say my exhaust is broken... I need to part from the b-pipe back so I guess the muffler I need to get. anyone else have to replace this? Is their a better one than stock or a more free flow one. They tried to tell me $430 for a stock one at the stealership... Oh well looks like an excause to get my ypipe so it will only be on the lift once!!

Frankencar cat-backs go for around $490 shipped, Cattman $599 (I think) and GReddys around $500 (ballpark)... just to give ya an idea of the aftermarket prices. I have a Frankencar and I like it; good quality, good fitment, no drone, etc etc....

Are ya sure it isn't repairable? Like something you can weld back together? Or is the exhaust really toast? You should verify that first before dropping $500 bucks on a new system.

Another alternative is to check local junkyards for the stock cat-back (you should be able to use any from a 00-03 Max) or see if you can get one used in our 5th Gen Classified forums... I sold my stock cat-back there for $150 bucks some time ago.

All the best...

They told me my exhaust broke where the circle is. Has anyone else had this happen? It rattels and bugs me so much too. I need to get my inspection and emissions done since it runs out the end of Jan. I want to get a cheap muffler I guess. Any suggestion on a very good priced, free flow, and quiet as stock muffler that will work well with my new ypipe?

Wow I really like the frankencar but that price is so high. I know it really is a good price compared to what other charge, but still more than I would like to spend. What other options do I have? Thanks for everyones imput so far.

There are people in the 5th Gen Classifieds selling their mufflers...

And like I said... junkyards...

Also look around for Powertech or Magnaflow mufflers.... those are decently priced...

Yup, exact same thing just happened to me 2 weeks ago. The weld that holds the pipe on the input of the muffler let go. I was like So I did have to replace the muffler...which comes with the pipe attached when you replace it. Seems like this is a fairly common occurance at around 70 k miles. Funny thing was...the 1sat muffler they put on (brand new oem) had this whistle when you accelerated hard...so I brought it back...they put another one on...did the same thing. The 3rd one they put on was from a different oem manufacturer...and it sounds exactly like the original one did when it was new. Also comes coated in some black coating...which I liked better than having the metal show from behind. And yea around 400 bucks installed

I bet if you took it to a local exhaust shop they could fix it for like 30 bucks.
