oh yea,

i had this problem forever... It goes half way in sometimes, and now you just really need to feel it click in. I had this problem before the sts and new bushings, now it makes it a bit worse because the new bushings have less play and it's either in or out. Also, allow the car to warm up, it won't shift as easy cold i noticed. I understand this to be pretty typical, i did make a paranoid thread about this awhile ago.

not an issue of cold versus warm

it acts the same cold or warm, its just really rough

I had that problem, too. I put some white lithium grease (suggested by DaveB) inside the bushing that sits on the tranny and the same at the base of the shifter. Just a couple of drops so they rotate around the pins a little easier. Also, I slightly back off the nut that holds the bushing at the bottom of the shifter, and used locktite to hold it in place. That puts less pressure on that bushing so it's easier to get over into reverse. All my shifts are nice and smooth...and short now.

Since the thread is already here could you elaborate on this? I'm curious as to what the STS and poly bushings are.

an STS is a short shifter

You can buy the Energy Suspension polyurethane shifter bushings from Cattman for about $18. Easy mod. Some one else will need to chime in about the Short Throw Shifter.
