I know this has been talked about before in the sense that some people's Maximas get horrible gas mileage. But I'm a little concerned about my own mileage numbers.

I just recently purchased a 2001 gle and have been getting only about 200 miles on a full tank of gas. That roughly equates out to about 14mpg. Does that sound correct? Is there potentially something wrong with the car? Is a sensor messed up and is injecting too much fuel?????

It's kinda freaking me out...

What is your driving like? Mostly city? I can get as much as 400mi+ if i do highway driving; in the city i'm lucky to get 230mi/tank...

i just filled up today after 391 miles on 13 gallons....sounds like somethin's messed up...check your filter, tire pressure, etc. to see if theyre good or not...

Not very surprising. I do mostly city driving and get about 250-280 a tank. Highway mileage i cant complain about.

i notice a very big increase in mileage when i run my tires at 35-36psi rather than 32 like is recomended, and the ride is nicer too.

I get 22-23mpg all the time...mix of highway, city, and bumper-to-bumper...but I also have a roof rack, which knocks a few mpg off I'm sure...

Best I've ever gotten was 27mpg, with my roof rack taken off and long-distance highway cruising

14 is WAAAYYYY low though. Even when I have done all city/bumper2bumper driving on a tank, I never have gotten worse than 20mph.....Definitely have it checked out. Also might want to try some Seafoam to clean your intake manifold and some BG products in the gas tank....might help out some by cleaning out whatever gunk you have in there....

Whats the tempurature like where you are? That plays a big factor. Í used to get 650+ km (I'm in Canada) per tan before getting a gas light. Now I'm about 480km. Same with my buddies 00 I30T, same VQ motor...So weather does play a big factor to.

Thanks for the advice irish! In terms of the seafoam and cleaning the intake manifold, do you mean that procedure where I suck seafoam down the brake line vacuum? Also, I've never heard of BG products. What are they, what do they do and where can I get them?

The weather here in Omaha has been fairly cold lately, but has been above freezing for the past week, I'd say, for the most part (except at night), but I don't seem to drive the maxima too much at that time.

i have been getting terribly gas mileage in the cold up here. today was the first day above feezing in a while. i usually pull off 18-20 mpg all city. with the cold temps its been lower then that. highway i can pull about 30 cruising at reasonable speeds

It also depends how you drive. If you have a heavy right foot, you will decrease your mpg. Try taking it slow on your next fill up, you should see a difference.

that is way too low....

my 00 se still gets 20mpg and it has been around 3 deg. up here the last two weeks. it also depends on how much you let your car warm up... if you let it sit and run for 10 min.... that is not gonna help.

i would check your air filter, i have a K&N filter, works great...

till i get my Injen CAI....

the worst i've gotten in the city is like 350 miles on a full tank, there's definately something wrong with your car or you're hitting the gas really hard ALL of the time.

I get somewhere close to 15-16mpg in the winter..this is with city driving with no more than 6 miles drivin everyday(work is onyl 5 minutes away)!! I get somewhere between 20-22 in the summer with the same type of driving ( 5 minute drive to work)..on the highway, i have infact hit 32mpg this is with no a/c on and driving for 15 hours continously.

Does the car have power ? Does it run very smooth when trying to accelerate to redline ? I would suspect the MAF being a culprit here as its one of THE major Air fuel ratio inputs to the ECU.

BG products can be located through their website, by looking up a autorized BG dealer. I just lucked out that my old Acura dealer I used to work at was using BG so I stacked up on BG44K and put it in my tank every 15K miles or so. I'm not using SeaFoam, I tried it and it didn't clean the intake manifold at all. BG Induction cleaner works like a charm.

How long a drive, a few miles at a time? The ECU may not get to closed loop if that's the case. Cold weather (longer open loop operation) and jack-rabbit starts (as fun as the are) kill gas mileage. Also, the rolling resistence of driving through slush and snow (and spinning the wheels) don't help either.

mine gave 15 and it went to 22 after coils, plugs and maf change. can't say which one fixed the problem. the money i save with the increase of mileage, paid for the mentioned parts..

i just did seafoam on my 2k and put an entire can into the gas tank thanks to advice from "Cuello" at O'Reilly. i have been getting between 16-19 city/highway. I recently got the coil code but didnt replace any because it couldnt be determined which one was acting up after them all being tested on an ohmmeter. i have also had some rough idles when i start the car at different times and while en route somewhere. i didnt get too much smoke when doing the maxima but when i did my old 96 altima w/ 124k it smoked like a ****. i'll report my mpg at next fill up. oh and 3 different people told me NOT to put ANY into my oil...has any1 done so and gotten bad results?

I guess I do a lot of short distance driving. The distance from my condo to school is only about 1/2 mile. I do that probably 4 times on a daily basis.

I've noticed an engine noise that I think is a bit weird that I'm going to start a new thread on. I don't quite know if it's related to the poor gas mileage.
