Do I spray both sides of K&N filter with oil?
#5
I did rub it down b/c there were little drops of oil between the metal and the gauze in a few different places...i also slid a paper towel inside the pleats b/c i could tell some drops of it were in there too. i drove around after i put it back in for a while and didnt have any problems so i am hoping my first time at oiling it was a success and not a disaster resulting in a blown MAF sensor.

when would u know if your filter needs more or less oil? I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to engine parts and accesories. I had installed my injen WAI with K&n FILTER about a year or 2 ago and havent oil'ed it since i put it on. was wondering how i could tell if it needs it

Ya, I was readin this thread and thought that you guys had to be talking about the panel filter. I have had a cone on all three of my cars now and just could not understand what was being talked about until I realized yall were talkin about the panel filter.

I ordered a K&N filter for my stock intake today, and will have it tomorrow. Will I need to reset anything? Was curious because I remember another thread people talking about the sensors(ecu?) got confused when more air flow was introduced?

owned k&n filters but never cleaned or oiled help!!!!
Ok so I have a panel or a drop in air filter on my 2006 tundra v-8 standard air box or oem box just the filter itself so I took it out today and it wasnt as clean as I like it to be since I'm on a ranch dirt everywhere so I went down got the cleaning kit ok I cleaned it rinsed it now its drying over night my question is do I spray the oil on both sides or just one side if one side which side? The side where it goes into engine or the side thats facing down that sucks the air in from the ground ? Ive never sprayed the oil on any filter so this is new to me. And I have the spray can oil not the squeeze oil. I been reading about dont spray to much oil but the directions says spray on each crown 3 inches away but does not say spray on one side or both sides.

First of all , make it sure that the K&N filter is completely dry. Spray the oil on the side thats facing down that sucks the air in from the ground . Ideally apply a thin coat , wait for ten minutes, apply a thin coat . Dont spray a lot it might kill the MAF

The oil is dyed red so you can see that the filter is properly oiled.
If it's red, it's oiled.
If there's parts that isn't red, then those parts aren't oiled.
Don't ever do it because over oiling will restrict flow.
On a stock maxima though I don't think so but just saying.

^^
I used k&n briefly when first did my intake. oil made the whole screen on maf housing black and I ran finger across it and got bunch of black oil residue.
This is only after several months of use and I never re-oiled it during that time...I can only imagine the oil residue on maf after using one of those long term.
But ever since Ive had my new 01 maf and aem dryflow the whole inside of intake from filter back is just clean and shiny now, no oil FTW

Word. Aem is top notch for sure. Apexi is sick too but not for the price and no need really.
Plus wanted to tell that story just for people who dont think that oil is harmful...it does leave a crap residue on your maf n I saw it first hand. Matter of fact I still have that old maf so I can provide visuals if need be.
