60,000 service and belt.

Hi guys. I have a question. My MAX has 56,000 miles right onw. I am having some problems though which I think is my belt. When I start the car cold (and sometimes even warm) and keep it running there is a little whistling sound coming form under the hood. I assume that my belt needs to be replaced. Now I am completly clueless about this. What do you guys think? Should I take it in to Nissan to do, or is it possible to do it myself? Whats included in the 60,000 service, and how much does it cost?

Also I have never changed the breaks or done anything to the rotors of my car yet. I tihnk I want to replace all the breaks and turn the roters. Is this somehting that they will do for me, or should I take it to a regular mechanic to do? Are belts covered by warranty because I have it until 75,000 miles. Thanks.

I hear some dealerships charge $200, others charge $500. I'd do as much as you can yourself to save some cash.

Ya, just to let you know, the link that you provided does not work.

60k miles is a good time to do several things:

New plugs
Tranny flush and fill
check/replace belts
new air filter
check/replace brakes

Just from personal experience - belts can be a pain in the *** to change due to the amount of tension that is required to hold them in place. However, if you are a patient person it can be done without too much mechanical knowledge.

Try some belt dressing on your belts.

If you know a reputable mechanic take it there for the brakes and belts. Read your warranty verbiage, wearable items are not typically covered.

thanks guys. I was planning on doing the tranny with a friend. Im talking about the whole flush and fill, also cleaning out all the magnets and everything. But I think I will let the dealership do the belts and everything else. Do you think I can ask them not to do a tranny flush or something, and will it bring the price down? Thanks.

oh wow. Just called the Stealership, and its a little over $500!!!! Thats crazy. I guess Im going to take my car to a regular mechanic, so he can balance my wheels and replace the belts, turn my rotors, and Ill put OEM break pads. What do you think? The tranny I will do myself.

So any1 have a clue on how much that could cost me at the mechanic. Are there any specific blets that I need to replace or is it just one belt? (I dont reall yknow these things). Should it be OEM, or just let the mechanic order an aftermarket one? Also the noise thats coming out of the hood, is probably the belt right? Thanks again everyone.
