2002 or 2003 to 2001 maxima stock muffler swap?

I am doing a Budget Y and B pipe upgrade on my 2001 maxima but want to keep the noise down. Is the diameter of the 2002/3 muffler bigger than 2001's? My idea of opening up but keeping it down.
Holler back.

the 02/03 muffler isn't any more free-flow than the 00/01, to my knowledge. Just different tips...

the muffler has little/nothing to do with the horsepower of the engine...both are plenty free-flowing for either engine...woul only need to increase piping size if you're going FI

Is it a regular thing for the max guys to do the B an Y pipe and keep the stock muffler and cat. If so where can I get some nice tips. The tips on the anni looks like they belong on a chevy. What do you think about Budget's products compared to the Catt?

Anybody got any suggestions on tips for the 5.5gen muffler? Not trying to post ***** but since we are on the topic of the OEM muffler. I have looked at some magnaflow. They look nice and I am sure they are high quality but I am looking for something a little cheaper.

that was the route i went with. started with y, b pipe with no resonator to stock muffler. now ive got headers, test pipe, b pipe with resonator to stock muffler. i doubt i will ever change out the muffler. i would consider doing some tips though but the magnaflow tips are expensive as mdloops pointed out. i used to work at advance auto in college and the tips they sell there always seemed to rust eventually but that was on the coast.

sloppmax. You are right about the ones at advance rusting out. I went with ypipe, b-pipe, muffler. I regret the muffler and just bought another OEM one the other day. If I were to do it again Iwould just buy the cattman midpipe,b-pipe, and headers. Exhaust is where its at my friend. The Maxima has an outstanding stock muffler and you should never replace it unless you want a louder sound. I think I lost performance from replacing my stock muffler.

I found a good magnaflow one online http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=671

Will this work if I buy 2 (one for each outlet on the GXE muffler). Does anybody have a stock muffler around to measure up? The end of the tip is 3 inches (diameter). I will have to find out the length too.

only the muffler used on the infiniti I30 and the AE maxima have a muffler that gave it extra 5 hp. I think it's bigger. And the tips are curved down.

thats not what gave it the supposed 5hp. the ae has a different part number for its b pipe and ecu. the mufflers are the same except the tips.

Guys, I got my Budget Y and B pipe 2 hours ago and those 2 hours were wasted looking at my items on the floor. Seems like great products and the resonator is a Magnaflow. I like how they supply all the gaskets and bolts. I can't wait to get them on, pity I have to take wifey's car to the mechanic. Can anybody tell me if an O2 goes in that bung on the B pipe, or does that stay plugged. ( I still think Catman's collector is better. It looks like it blends smoother and will flow better, but I couldn't get over the $160.00 savings which almost covered my Bpipe). Whew, that was a long post.

You have a 2001. All 2001s are CA spec, meaning you don't have an O2 sensor behind the main cat. So leave the plug in, I might even make sure it's tight first so it doesn't vibrate off later.
