Here's a question for all 2k2-3 manuals...

Alright...I'm seriously considering buying rippers 2k2 6 spd. The only problem is that I've only driven a stick for like 1 month in my life. I had a little stick shift s-10 and it was pretty easy to get used to. I've driven an automatic ever since then. I'm not worried about buying a manual, in fact i prefer one. But I just wanna make sure it'll be easy to get used to. Some have told me that the nissan 6-speed is a bit** to get comfortable with. I've heard some people say that it's even enough for them not to buy a nissan car with the 6-spd. And this is coming from people who drive sticks everyday. Thoughts everyone???

Despite the fact that i've been driving stick for 4 years now, none of the Nissan cars i've sat in to drive have not felt uncomfortable. I love my 6-spd tranny even though compared to some others it isn't the best. It is extremely smooth for my tastes and the only thing i figure you need to worry about are 1-2 gear shifts which can be uncomfortable if not done properly. I'd definately recommend the 6-spd... When my father drove my car he told me my transmission felt like an automatic and hes been driving stick since his teens and hes 52 now... I think you are fine in the comfort department. Now since you've been driving stick for a month, you are going to have to get some experience under your belt before you become a "pro" and really appreciate the 6-spd tranny or any tranny in general. Practice makes perfect. Good luck...

You should not have any problem to get use to it.... my girlfriend just tried mine and never drove manual before and must say she was pretty good at it.

Why would a 6spd be any different than a 5spd? It's just an extra gear. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Usually those comments are from people who had only a short test drive on the car giving their first impression....all the people I know owning a speed gear box found it weird the first time, maybe a bit confusing but like evyrone told you, you'll get use to it pretty soon ...and trust me...you're gonna like it

quit thinking about it and just get it.....I BET that you will not regret it. Nothing at all difficult about driving the 6-speed, just a little gettin used to, just like any other manual.

The Nissan 6 speed is cake... so smooth... if my wife could pick it up on my car, I'm sure so could you.. btw, I've tried Acura, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and VW manuals and my 6 speed is by far still one of the easiest and nicest to drive... the Subie and VW were nice too...

I didn't really know how to drive stick when I picked my car up. I had only driven stick about 3 or 4 times in a friend's Jetta. After a couple of days I was fine. It's not hard at all to get used to.

Not too sure about that. I've drive Acuras and Hondas and I prefer their trannys over ours.

Just my opinion.

... which you are definitely entitled to...

I've driven a 199? GSR, 2005 TL, 1998 Civic, and 1999 Accord and didn't like any of those clutches and shifting... but like ya said... that's just me... btw, none of those cars were mine... just wanted to set that straight too...

I liked the 2002 Maxima, 2002 WRX, and 1996-2002 Jetta (I used to love VWs) clutches so much better....

Btw, I'm gonna stop talkin about all these other cars now cuz I don't want this to become one of those debates and get this guy's thread locked...

I love my Max's 6 speed tranny; its easy and its nice, for my purposes... that is all.

I have driven Hondas my entire life (till now!) and their clutches and gearboxes are some of the best in the industry. I drove a stick maxima about 5 yrs ago and I didnt care for it.

But thats me.

I absolutely love my 6-speed! Aside from the fact that it's a little notchy (not a big deal), anyone that has driven my car is amazed with how smooth & easy to shift it is.

Not the best manual transmission on the Maxima, but plenty fine and easy to learn. Get a 6-speed.

I worked at a nissan dealership and the max 6spd is one of the smoothest i've ever driven. Light clutch too. Now with the 350z, EVERY costumer i had test driving the Z Stalled the car at the beginning! Only 1 customer didnt stall it (he bought it too). I only worked there for like 1.5 month.

Thanks for all your input guys, what about longevity. Does the smoothness stay with it or does it start shaking and being rough to shift after a while. Plus...if i look to mod it out, how much can it handle? Thanks again though for opinions so far, I think I've pretty much made up my mind.

are they pretty tough trannies? I know the automatic is more like a wuss-o-matic...but is there anyway I'd fair better with a stick?
