Weird Engine Noise

I just recently purchased an '01 gle. This is my first maxima and am not really familiar with the ins and outs of the car and its typical engine characteristics. Just wanna make sure if this is normal or not because the dealership gave me a 3 month warranty.

I have noticed something weird, however. When I'm driving at cruising speeds and have my foot on the pedal to maintain that speed, I notice the engine not acting "as smooth." I can feel a somewhat HIGH frequency vibration, very slight I might add, on the pedal and coming from the engine. It goes away after I rev the engine to a higher rpm, as when more significantly accelerating (more like I would want the engine to sound all the time). The car accelerates just fine, I think... I've never really experienced this with any other car.

Do any of you guys experience this phenomenon???? Thanks is advance to any responders.

I forgot to mention, I also get somewhat poor gas mileage, roughly 14-15 mpg.

Didn't you just post about an engine problem?

Yes I did. But I made mention of the fact that I would start a new thread in the "Horrible Gas Mileage" thread as I'm not sure if they're related. Thanks...

I had this issue too. You know what fixed it? A timing fix courtesy of my homeslice at Nissan. Now, the car responds instantly and feels a lot smoother. A timing fix takes no more than 1 minute to do with Nissan's diagnostic touch screen tool.

How much will Nissan charge me for the timing fix? I think I may have this problem too. On the other hand, I think I need a new MAF and coils too, so I really have no idea which it is.

It depends. It really is a one minute job, so give 'em some hell if they say $75 (which is their standard price for any job that takes less than an hour to do). I actually think that a timing fix is covered under the 60k drivetrain warranty, so point that out and have it done for free.

ya know, i think every 2k-2k1 max has this problem. Its not really a problem though. I think it has a lot to do with the variable valve muffler. Whenever my rpms were low, it kinda had little hint of vibration, but when over 2.5K rpms, it was smoother than any car ive ever driven...i wouldnt be too worried.
