Raced a TL-S again!
#1
This time I checked the badge to make sure it's not a regular TL. I'm sure now it's a TL-S cause of the semi-clears in back and the color is blue. Same intersection this time he beat me by a car length but, I'm happy to say that I kept up with him in an Auto. I raced this person before. Let me get my friends TT Supra see what he can do about that?

I would have thought this car would whoop us autotragic guys by more than a car length.

Re: I'm READY
Don't count it. Most magazines put the auto Maxima at 15.8, while the TL-S is 15.0. Some manual Maxima's don't obtain anything lower than 15 at the strip. I've personally witnessed that. Also, add .2 lower for most magazine times universally. The TL-S can probably run 14.8 and our auto Maxima can run a 15.6. Don't forget they have closer ratio gears, in addition to their 260 HP engine and higer torque. They are also heavier. With all that, the TL-S should easily beat an auto Maxima, if not a manual one. (Stock for stock)

With that in mind, since the auto can keep up with the TLS, us manual shifters may even have a chance of 'obliterating' the TLS.

To deal with situations like this, you should have your car look exactly like stock, except with nitrous and K&N installed. This way, if you beat him, he might think your stock and he will be surprised! THis will give pride to all of us, Maxima owner!

Ever heard of NVH?

I would think Maximas (especially modde) have a higher NVH than an Acura...that can often make a car feel faster than what it is.

Re: As I saidbefore
A manual 5 speed Maxima CAN beat a TL-S. It's a close race. I've been at the track 8 times in the past year and I see most 5 speed Maxima's run 15.0-15.2 (with intakes too). The best people usually do with modified Maxima is 14.6-14.8. There are people doing 14.8 in a stock TL-S. On the acura-tl.com forum there are a few people who ran 15.2 stock. I think it depends on how they run. There's a special way to run the car in sport shift mode. If Larry J. (Mr. 14.3) races a TL-S, then he would beat it soundly. I seriously doubt a mildly modified 5th gen auto Maxima can beat a TL-S. They are close to one second apart in the 1/4 mile. Maybe Larry can respond to this thread. I think he's raced TL-S's.

I don't know about the TL-S, but I have a stock CL-S, and I have raced my friends 2001 5sp Max, on the highway. We raced from 50-110, and I beat him by 1 1/2 cars, his car was faster than I thought it would be. I have also raced a 2000 auto, with exhaust form a stop, and beat him by about 2 cars. I would say that the Max is faster than the Lexus IS300's that I have raced.

Have you run the 1/4 mile yet? I'm wondering what the CL-S does at the tree.
Watch out for NOS and SC Maxima's! They are out there. Also, watch out for the new 3.5 240 HP Altima and the 260 HP - 6 speed Maxima this fall. The competition is fierce!
Also... stay away from Tampa. There's a wicked 5 speed Maxima that is running mid 14's.

Trust me, I used to drag race.
You people are getting all crazy and **** that the maxima is can race all these cars and what not. Who cares if you races a TL Type S, I would take a TL Type S over my Maxima SE ANYDAY. TL Type S is far better than a Maxima.
So enough about this racing.

Yes, RT and driver skill are a big part of the equation. With that being said, the automatic Maxima and the TL-S are not evenly matched. My argument is that the TL-S and the manual Maxima are more evenly matched, but that will change this fall. BTW- You are not the only person to drag race here.
If you don't want to hear about racing, I guess you should skip this thread that has the word "race" in it.
