Question for 5th Gen Maxima owners

Sup everyone!

I currently have a 4th Gen 1995 Max GXE as my daily driver. It currently has 127k miles on the clock and still runs strong (gotta love the VQ). Recently I have been thinking of trading it in for something a little newer. I think I have narrowed my choices down to a 2003 Maxi or Alti.

My question for you guys is about any potential problems, issues to look out for with this particular generation. Based on the reliability of my 95, I would pretty much expect to have the same type of experience. Chances are I will not mod this car at all, but if the bug happens to make it thru, I will only mod it slightly

Let me know your thoughts and opinions. Sorry if this has been asked before, but it appears the search is down

No problems with my 2003 besides the Bose craptastic radio. Just get one without the Bose system or take your chances with a cranky radio.

That doesnt surprise me, Im about ready to pull the Bose system in my 350Z. Every time I listen to it, I think there is something wrong with my ears!

There is a 2003 Max on Autotrader.com with 21k miles listed for $16.5K. Is that a decent starting price for an 03? I might go check it out tomorrow! Anyone got a carfax report to spare?

I would go for it with the 03 Max, you'll love it. I don't have a bose system, I wouldn't know if they were so crappy. I thought Bose are the best sound system but i guess not.

I agree on getting a 2003. They have problems just like any other car, but it seems like a few of the common 5th gen problems don't apply to the 2003 model, maybe because it was the last year for the 5th gen.

As far as the Bose system goes, Nissan says it's the best sound system out there, and Bose is a good audio company, but the Bose/Clarion "premium" audio system that Nissan uses is just a collection of the cheapest parts they could scrape together. Same goes for the "Rockford Fosgate" system available in the Sentra SE-R Spec-V.

Yes, those tires MUST go... I just got a set of Goodyear F1 GS-D3's and they are gods compared to the deathtenzas... I should've done this back in November when I got the car... Good luck on your new ride, it's incredibly nice...

So'd you trade in the 4th gen? if so, did you get a good deal on it? i came from a 95 se 5 speed to my 2k2 6 speed and i love the car, but i still miss my 4th gen, give it a week and i bet you will too.

4th Gen is a great car for sure, seems to make the best use of its power. My 5th Gen seems like a much more solid car overall so far. My main gripe so far is that it tends to shift when I dont want it to. Will the tranny adapt to how I drive over time? Should I reset the ECU? This car is really hard to get off the line without lighting up the tires, but if I baby it, it will shift into 2nd before I want it to.

Thanks for the welcomes! Ive actually been a member since 2002, but never really posted! Looking forward to being more involved in the future

BTW, if anyone is looking for a pampered Black 95 GXE with 127K miles on the clock in southern CA, give me a PM
