Trans problem?

I've noticed something recently, where I'll be coasting along, at speed (already moving, no foot on the gas) and when I put my foot back on the accelerator, the car almost seems to shudder before accelerating again. It only occurs for a split second, and it does it no matter how softly/smoothly I roll into the gas again. Also, the speed at which I'm coasting seems not to make any difference. My first thought is that the transmission is going, but I'm not altogether confident that what I'm feeling is the trans slipping...mostly because I haven't driven a car that had a slipping auto trans.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Is this a problem with the trans, or could it be simply isolated to the solenoid, valve body, <insert what I really don't know about transmissions here>, etc.

Thanks,

John

I have a 2002 SE auto and i'm experiencing the same thing. I've also been unable to shift out of 1st gear on occasion. I've found a tsb on our trannies, in which the valve body is replaced or something inside it.

Here's where I found it:

I haven't experienced the first gear problem, but I found a TSB that relates directly to it: http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infin...Jan2/53975.asp

As for the shudder, it seems as though this is the same one on the site you listed, but this one spells out the I35, which helps [me] at the service dept. I'm guessing the "shift shock" is what we're experiencing.

I'm at 60k miles. I've done a flush every 30k. I'm thinking that my problem is the valve body, and I'll mention it the next time I take it to the dealer.
