i do know for a fact that there are places that will set your odometer to whatever number you want it to read. it costs more on different cars because the higher end ones have the data recorded in multiple places.

Does anyone have first hand Knowledge?
My car has 67k, the car in the salvage yard has 80k on it. I like keeping the original equipment and and modding another. Just for resale or future trade-in purposes.

Take it to the dealer and they can reprogram the cluster to 67K, but I'd bet ONLY with the car there to verify what you're doing. Or if you don't find a dealer that will do it, you can just swap the circuit guts of the gauges depending on what you're doing.
As far as I know, the cluster circuitry and ECU both store the mileage, however they're independent so the 80K gauge will not just "update" to the 67K miles stored in the ECU.
One 4th gen member came up with an ingenious method of speeding up the OD circuit in the cluster to match the cars actual mileage using a frequency(function?) generator, however it took a few weeks. I'll see if I can find the thread.

ECU don't store no miles ! I have put in a cluster from a 00 with 43K miles on it into my 01 and the speedo didn't work due to differences between 01 and 00, but the mileage that the ODO said was 43K miles and I had 100K miles. I swapped clusters cause my tach stopped working due to crappy indiglo gauges I had. People get this idea that the ECU has miles stored in it... its a MYTH, it does not store no miles, you can't even bring that up with the Consult.
