I haven't posted a pic yet. It is on the way.

The Nissandriven.com bulletin board has a message posted that the SE 2001 model has a hood vibration problem at high speeds? Is this true?

I just bought my Maxima last Tuesday, it has 550 miles it is automatic, I hit some high speeds on the weekend I didn't feel anything buy smoothness.

Congrats on your buy and welcome to the Fam!

Did they define "high speeds"? Some of the guys up here have been to 130+ so they'd be better judges than I would, but I haven't noticed anything up to 100 mph.

I have heard a couple complain about hood vibrations on other boards. But I think those are islotated problems. I have got my max upto 130+ on several occassions and 100+ on numerous others - the only thing i see vibrate (minimally) is the driver side door mirror. Hood looks fine. Never seen any vibration problem.

I do I do!

I thought I was nuts. But in a recent travel to Cumberland at speeds in excess of 80 the hood kept "raising" as if it was not securely latched. This could be a large problem if the latch goes and the hood slams back. Is there a fix available that anybody knows of?

Same problem 2001 GXE

I have the same problem with mine. It's like there is about a 1/4 inch of play when the hood is closed and latched. I think it is missing the little rubber stops that the hood rests on, those take up that gap and the hood sits or digs into them to secure and stabilize the hood. All you have to do is lift up or push down slightly when the hood is completely closed to find out.

i have researched this a little more.

a few people i have called at Quirk nissan have told me there are some rubber stoppers you can install in order help stabilize. the salesmen all state that there is nothing wrong. i don't blame them, they are trying to sell cars. but the maintenance workers are cool, they give out the info if you just ask them.

anyway, i guess if you go at speeds that exceed 115+ you may get some vibration. someone posted they have extreme vibration. maybe the rubber stoppers will help you out.

later.

Well maybe if we can get a group of max owners together we can get a TSB or at least get these for cheap or free. I started a thread that hopefully will get some response. I agree with Colonel about this possibly being dangerous if the latch lets go.
