HOW TO: Remove Aluminum Dash Kit??

I Bought an aluminum dash kit from custommaxima.com about a year ago. when i had my new system installed, the dash kit was damaged, so the place that installed it payed me to get a new one. but i have to remove the old one first. anyone know the best way to do this without damaging the factory dash?

Thanx

Good Luck. I know mine is stuck on like cement, but i suppose w/ a hairdryer and about an hour or so you could take it off.

I wonder if, after you use the hairdryer to get it off, if using some Goo-Gone will help remove what's left over...

Just a thought. I want to get the brushed aluminum dash kit as well. Just waiting for the fundage to surface

Good luck and let us know how it turns out...

I'm trying to do the same thing here...the only thing I'm worried about is the radio part...i'm afraid it will leave marks on the radio screen. We'll see. I bought 3M adhesive remover...so we'll see what's up.

From what I have heard heat makes adhesive more sticky, I would try putting the whole vent assembly in the freezer for about 40 minutes then peeling it off. The Coldness will make the adhesive so brittle that it will be possible to almost just knock it off without much effort at all. This technique is used in knocking the green Xbox jewel off the top of an Xbox for customization...

Umm, you evidentally have never cleared, painted, or put DDEs into 2k2-2k3 headlights...Last time I checked heat makes things soft...cold makes them hard.

heat will melt the glue or make it gooey so you can pull it apart. i guess you can say thats sticky.

do NOT use goo gone or anything of the sort on any of the oem pieces that have that matte gray type finish. that finish is a sprayed on coating that will basically disintegrate the second some goof-off gets rubbed on it. im talking about - the window switch piece, the center vents, shifter trim (non wooden GLE) and other pieces with that grayish type finish

I remember when I installed mine they recommended not using Armor All or the like on the dash because it would ruin the adhesive of the double sided tape. Maybe you could see if that does the trick.
